2009 Volkswagen CC Road Test Ratings

A breakout from the mold of vanilla midsize sedans, the CC offers buyers striking styling inside and out. Base models provide a powertrain relative to all four-cylinder competitors.

Superb engine power from the 2.0T and a responsive transmission give the base CC a leg up on its competition when it comes to performance. Brake and steering performance are only average, however. V6 models don't offer the same cost/performance value.

Good ride/handling compromise allows the CC to be amply comfortable but retain a well-damped ride. Rear seats can be cramped for taller passengers. Only seats four.

The CC makes some functionality compromises to accommodate its striking styling. Namely, its trunk isn't as spacious as some competitors and its rear headroom is shrunken slightly. Still, there's enough utility in the package for most shoppers in this segment.

As one of the best-looking midsize sedans, the CC also offers brilliant design and materials inside. Its interior is convincingly well built as well.
