Dear Scooterox, I've owned a 2002 Cabrio GLX for the last 4 years and I've became best friends with my mechanic. Yesterday I got similar issues that you've described: 1) When I left my car in the garage overnight I noticed all the windows were open. 2) The courtesy light on the drivers door wasn't working. 3) When I was driving, the alarm horn would sound 3 times. 4) The vanity ... I do not usually post anything. But, so many people have the "split seam" problem on convertible tops, I could not resist. There is a very simple fix for most such problems. Use McNetts Seam Seal. You can get it at outdoor stores such as Gander Mountain, Marine supply stores or on-line for about $10.00. This stuff is clear and was designed for such things as tents and backpacks. It will ... Hi, I also just found out from my mechanic that 3 of my 4 hose to my convertible pump are leaking & need to be replaced. I checked with a VW dealership parts department in Orlando & was told the part # 1oE871794A for the longer hoses (2ea) & for the shorter hose 1oE871793A (1ea) I need replaced are $342 each So I was wondering if any one knows an after ... Have you checked Automotix.com you may be able to locate a salvaged vehicle.
Sorry, I just got up.... Check the fuse! On mine a hose broke. The 4 feet of hose is $300 to replace. I have not been able to find a hydraulic shop that has the right fittings to make one for $30. If you need more help let me know.....ZZZzzzzZZZzzzz
oops, I forgot your's is a 2002. So it might be located behind the cd changer. I'm not sure but I've heard some are back there. I would guess your owners manual would talk about this since even a blown fuse on the pump would require you to do the same. Herb
On my 1999 Cabrio in the left rear corner of the truck is a cover with a rubber plug about 2" in diameter. Take out the rubber hole plug and turn the "T" knob" counter-clockwise. This will relieve the pressure then you just raise the top by hand. Herb
I've seen posts from people that due to issues with the automatic convertible top, they are using theirs manually...How on earth do you do this? Mine is low on hydraulic fluid, so I am afraid I might be looking at a leak. In the mean time, I'd love to know how to operate the top manually. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
The car surprised me with it's ride quality. I was expecting it to either be stiff and noisy or soft and drafty but it was neither. It did great on the highway at 70mph with only minimal wind and road noise. On the city roads it took the bumps and tight turns with ease, letting me know where they were but not tossing me about like a pissed off bull. By ... Read More
I bought my 16 yr old daughter a 2002 Cabrio conv. with 38K and it was great for two (2) weeks!! Then the drivers front window quit and (keep in mind it's out of warranty) I was told I needed a new motor and switch, which I had them replace. After that the passenger front window quit one (1) week later! I told her just to drive it that way. I ... Read More

It's so funny reading all these posts because my 02 Cabrio has had most of these things happen. There's been so many that I can't really remember the fixes off the top of my head but if anyone is desperate for a fix they can't figure out, let me know and I will check with my repair guy (we've become good friends after my Cabrio has been in there so many ... I bought my Cabrio new from a VW dealer. Within a year or so I began having trouble with the accessories after the car was parked in hot sun. The car started and all but no A/C, lights, wipers, etc. Took it to the dealer several times with this issue but the claim was that they had no way of fixing it because they couldn't cause it to fail. From the ... Read More
The diagnostic connector can be found directly above the cigarette lighter. It is covered by a rectangular plastic cover, which if you look real close has a diagnostic emblem on it. It is easy to pry open and pop out, but be careful as it comes off with a jerk and I tend to scratch my hand everytime I pop it off.
Sorry don't have an answer for you. But I wonder if you can tell me where is the connector to plug in the diagnostics reader. I just went to the auto parts store to get a read out for a check engine light on my 2001 Cabrio, but they cannot locate the plug in. Can you help out? mte2
Where can I find instructions on how to clean this part? My Check engine light is on and ran the diagnostics. This showed a problem with the MAF sensor. From everything that I've read it could just need a good cleaning. Does anyone know how much it would cost to have this part replaced?
I live in South Florida and bought this 2002convertible about 3months ago. I have only put top down two times when I first bought it. I have a 2002 VW Cabrio with an automatic top. When opening and closing the top on my car the top moves about 3 inches before it stops. When I turn the car off and on again it repeats another 3 inches. Right now I repeat this until the top is completely closed or open. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem?
On a 2002 Cabrio. Power windows don't work. Took door apart and found a plastic wheel had broken and the stell cable that pulls the glass up had come off the plastic wheels. Would VW repair, they should! Cheryl
i have a 2002 cabrio purchased brand new and for 3 out of the 5 years ive owned it the check engine light remained on. i took it to two different vw dealers and an after market mechanic, no one could fix the problem. last year, in ny, it became mandatory for a check engine light to be off to pass inspection so i was in big trouble. they kept telling ... Hi, I am new to the group, but I am a 2002 Cabrio owner. I have been fighting with VW over this issue for 3 years. They finally just fixed this. My car would not fill up at full speed. i am looking for a four seat convertible, and I am a VW owner (Jetta Turbo) now. I can't find ANY 5 speed Cabrio's anywhere (2002). I drove an automatic 2002 GLS on a 100 degree day. It was SLOW. I went to buy a Jetta, but my dad (imagine that!) convinced me to go for the convertible, since I always wanted to that kind of car (and a Jetta too). The whole "life is short" argument. I've heard that VW was going to the 4 year 50,000 mile warranty with the 2002 models. However, I also heard that the 10 year powertrain warranty was not included. Perhaps, the assumption is that most VW owners won't have their vehicles for more than 4 years?? I bought a 2000 VW cabrio....and I'm looking forward to purchasing an extended warranty that allows me to go back to my old mechanic. ... Read More
