It's fairly simple. You can find out from the IRS website, the current $$ amount of the Tax Credit. The credit is available only for a certain number of Ford escape Hybrids (for the 2007, the credit lasted until Ford sold 60K FEH's). It is a Tax credit available only in the tax year of purchase. I live in the Chicago area and have had my 2008 FWD Escape Hybrid since June of 2007. The summer was great. On every tank, the mileage was between 32 and 34 mpg. When winter arrived, the honeymoon was over. Currently the mileage is 20-25 mpg - definitely disappointing. In 8 months, I've driven it 8,000 miles with many short trips. The transmission doesn't shift like a normal car? The FEH has a CVT, Continuous Variable Transmission? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuously_variable_transmission I'm noticing that the engine doesn't turn off until it's warm (~1100 rpm), but the assist and charge seem the same. In July 2007 the only 2008 I could find in the Northern VA area was at Koons Ford in Falls Church, VA, and they were asking a $3000 "market adjustment" I believe they called it. About a week after my visit they contacted me with an offer to purchase at msrp sticker price. Ordered my 2008 4WD FEH on 7/30/2007. At the time there were none to be found on the dealer lots. At the time of order I was told 4-6 weeks for delivery. Also at the time of order, I was given by FORD a $500 cash rebate coupon as an incentive to buy, good until 10/01/2007. The $500 is a Cash Incentive to purchase. If you go to the Kelly Blue Book site (www.kbb.com) and select New Car pricing and then price the 2008 Escape Hybrid with options, you should see one of the selections you can make refers to the $500 incentive.
