Can anyone explain to me whythe official EPA mpg on the Ford Ranger 3.0 and 4.0 liter engines has varied so much in the past seven years? I am interested in purchasing a used Ranger in this range of years. I would prefer a 4WD 4.0 liter with manual transmission. Since 2001, this engine has been OHC and 207 hp. Hey, I bought my ranger in 2005 with it being an 02 model and I have a question about the engine. well, I've noticed at the beginning of the year that it's not getting the right amount of mileage that it should be. I recieved my ranger in 2005 with it being an 02 model only having 18,000 on it. Excellent condition. Well, when i would hit the brakes, the steering wheel would shake. So, about a year and a half ago i bought new roders. Now it's shaking all over again. I don't know if maybe it's the calipers or something. hey all if anyone out there has a 99 ranger with the 4cyl 2.5L 5sp manual i have a bit of advice that i finally used myself...go buy a new truck! i just recently bought a 2005 nissan frontier and it is a big step up! thats not to say you should go buy one, but definately buy a newer ranger, like 05 or 06, or something different. 99 seemed to be the year that Ford shrugged the ... I looked at new Rangers from about 2000 thru 2005 and never replaced my 1994 4L Ext Cab STX because the new ones were not much different from my 94. And some of the things about my 94 were better. I have a 2005 Ford Ranger and to tell you the truth the only difference between the 2005 and 2006 Ford Rangers is the front grille and the fender flares. Everything else is the same. To give you another perspective I have a friend that has a 1996 Ford Ranger he replaced the front grille, rims, tires, and put a lift kit on it. The truck looks exactly like mine. How scary ...
