2003 Chevrolet Blazer LS ZR2 Rwd 2dr SUV (4.3L 6cyl 4A)

Review

I bought my Blazer new. I liked the 4x4 look to it, and wanted another SUV. I have had to warranty replace the CD player. Also warranty work on stabilizer bar. My exhaust also kept running after I shut vehicle off. Dealer finally fixed. Water leakage in rear side windows, repaired once, just started leaking again now in"07. Water runs all across header and drips all over inside rear. Oil cooler lines also were leaking, water pump too, and ball joints. Luckily this was all repaired under warranty. The carpet wore through just after one year by the gas pedal. I have driven two Jeep Cherokee Sports before this purchase, never had any problems. Will probably not buy another Chevy SUV.

Favorite Features

Like the look of vehicle. Not quite enough horsepower, but I knew that buying a 6 cylinder, and the weight of vehicle. I wish I had a four door model. Backseat is hard to get into, but roomy enough once you get back there. Like the 6 CD changer. Like the big tires.

Suggested Improvements

Seal the windows better. I now am afraid the windows will just pop out as I'm driving down the road-based on how much water leaks in. Cheap carpet. All the warranty work and inconvenience I have been through waiting for repair work on this vehicle. I can see why GM is loosing out to the imports.

Review

All in all it is an OK SUV. I wouldn't purchase another one. The inside of the vechicle is not big enough to haul or carry enough people if you have to use car seats. It is not a family SUV. The gas mileage is terrible. I have to fill up the tank once a week just for grocery shopping and taking the kids to school.

Favorite Features

The height off the ground of the vechicle. It makes it easy to get the kids in and out of the car seats.

Suggested Improvements

Get better gas mileage. Make the inside bigger somehow. Somehow make a foldup console.

Review

I've got about 45,000 on this SUV with no problems. It's the most functional vehicle I've ever owned. The interior is not trendy but very driver-friendly. The size is great, not as big as my wife's new Trailblazer, but big enough to seat 4 with ease with plenty of cargo room. The truck frame and engine, the Vortec, make it less refined but more durable than many of the newer SUVs. It's great in the snow, and there's enough muscle in the engine to handle passing on the interstate. I've been thinking of trading it in on a newer SUV, but it's hard to find anything I like better. I also like the styling, it's big but not imposing.

Favorite Features

The instrument cluster, ease of shifting, sound system, and handling in snow.

Suggested Improvements

Bring back an updated Blazer.

Bought used with 32k miles. In stock configuration it is a dog. After installing new exhaust, cold air intake and using a Hypertech programmer, it runs much better. Quite a bit of body flex when offroad on moderate to easy 4x4 trails. Decent clearance. Limited modification potential due to offset of wheels. Very comfortable on and off road ride.

Favorite Features

Very reliable. Electronic 4x4 is excellent. Strong, reliable engine.

Suggested Improvements

Moot, no longer manufactured.

Review

This is the first Blazer I ever owned, however I've been around numerous Blazers throughout my life, and they really are good solid SUV's. I do agree that ever since the Trailblazer came along the Blazer is not respected the way it was back in the day, and it still should be. The engine and drivetrain are tough and were tuned for truck work. If you are looking for a reliable, dependable, solid, smooth running vehicle that has 4-wheel drive with a low price, the Blazer deserves a test drive. I probably would have purchased the Trailblazer since it is a bigger vehicle, however I don't care for the Vortec 4200 aluminum inline-6 as I feel that it will not hold up as good over time as the 4.3 does

Favorite Features

First, the Vortec 4300 is a great, solid, durable, and reliable motor. It is nice to have a motor that has an iron block, and heads instead of the new Vortec 4200 all aluminum crap. The pickup is nice, rides smoothly, gas mileage is decent, and 4-wheel drive in the winter is a real plus.

Suggested Improvements

It would be nice if Chevy added more standard features to the Blazer trims. Such as standard power front seats, keyless entry etc. It seems that once 2002 Blazers came around the extra option availability decreased, due to the Trailblazer coming into the picture.

This SUV is great and if the gas price didn't go up I... ,but while I could drive it I had a ball. The style is very macho and the vehicle really sat in the road when passed by a 18 wheeler ( which isn't very offen

Review

I've owned my Blazer for just over a year and put 12,000 miles on it, no real complaints thus far. It actually rides quite nice considering the old chasis, and the cabin is very quiet on the highway. If you buy one, accept that you are buying a truck, not a Rav4 or CRV. The good news is it can handle truck-type work and moderate off-roading without a problem. I have a rare 5 speed model, my only complaint that it tends to grind 2nd until the fluid has warmed up. I've also had it leak water twice on me - I chalked it up to not closing the sunroof the first time, but if it happens again its going to the dealer.

Favorite Features

As long as you don't pay sticker (and you shouldn't) you can get one heck of a deal on these things. I paid $16.6 for a leftover brand new '03 in '04 that had a $27k sticker. There's no reason you should pay over $20k for one. Poor resale means you can pick up 2-3 year old used ones cheap.

Suggested Improvements

It seems a common problem with these cars are ball joints. Some of it may be GM cheapness, but I suspsect it may also be due to the fact that it uses greasable joints vs. sealed joints most of the more recent vehicles use. If they are not greased at every oil change, they will fail rather quickly.

Owned 30 days and have serious issues already. NOTE: it's used and the problems may not be GM's fault. Day 6:Service Engine Soon light comes on. Friday, day 7, dealer says bad O2 sensor/1 plug, I asked why not all six sparks?" They're not bad". OK, I'll replace them myself. 445pm:Left & drove approx 2mi.in traffic,SES on again! Went back, 5pm,service gone. Spoke to Sales Mgr about the 1 plug replaced and why not all six?,"He'll fix, take truck home" O.K.Took to VT, 800mi w/SES light on, perfect ride, no problems. Monday:dropped off. Tuesday: "Your truck's ready, another O2 was bad, wire harness was crimped, and replaced a PCM" I know thats the computer!Waranteed ,Day 29:oil leak/loose oil filter hose! Uhg!

Favorite Features

I love the truck besides the problems. The posi/disc brake rear axle is great. Why did GM take so long to build a true S10 4x4? This 4.3 version is smooth, too bad GM killed it. Great interior layout, nice seats, but cheapo cloth. Where is GM's durable tweed? I've owned 2 older 4dr S10s '91/'93, I loved'em.

Suggested Improvements

GM, give all the S10 owners an unlimited waranty on ball joints and EGR valves!

Review

I have an 03 Blazer ZR2 that I bought new a year and a half ago now, with just under 15k miles on it. I haven't had a single thing wrong with it other than a simple fix for the sunroof. The engine has great torque, and while it could use some more horsepower, that's not what this vehicle was intended for.

Favorite Features

Off road, it's as good as a Jeep Wrangler, although I'd like to upgrade the skid plates to a more metal like substance - but I haven't had any trouble. Great speakers and 6 disc CD changer! Love the 31" tires. 4 wheel discs and aluminum wheels are great and show very little brake dust.

Suggested Improvements

I wish I could have got a 4 door ZR2 version, and especially now that they don't make these anymore I don't get any respect on trade in values, but I'm just going to keep it and enjoy it.
