BMW 5-Series Maintenance and Repair

Crankshaft Sensor

Hi; I own a 2002 530. There is a problem with the cranck shaft sensor. Or so the computer says. The car runs fine and I have been told this code appear very often on BMW and driver just can“t notice any problem with the car. My question is, how can this happen?, It sounds pretty bad to loose info on the crankshaft positioning and yet the car runs fine...... One the repair ... Read More...

BMW 528i and Jeep trade-in

Got a 528i (premium package, sirius, I pod, xenon) 24 month 12k mile lease for $3500 down at $699/month (plus 7% FL tax), but wrapped into this they took my old 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland :lemon: with 83k miles (plus bad AC, check engine light on, and worn brake pads, some rust on the hood) and paid off my remaining loan of $10,300. Did I get ripped off? Thanks. ... Read More...

BMW 5-Series Prices Paid and Buying Experience

Re: 528i in Charlotte [capsfan]

Well, I just took an approach of honesty. I told them that I had a deal on an Infiniti M35 and I needed to make a decision by this weekend and that I preferred to have another BMW ( I currently have a 2002 530i - not financed through BMW). I said I just wanted to lease now because I want to buy a new car when the new model 5 series comes out. Again, just the truth. I used the terms ... Read More...

My First BMW-Did I do OK?

Hello all, from the great information on this thread and website I think I negotiated a great deal on my first BMW, and luxury car in general. Thanks to you very sharp folks, this is what I configured. By the way this was negotiated from only one dealer in upstate NY. BMW 535xi: MSRP: $51600.00 Premium, Navigation, Sport, Cold weather, Sirius, Auto, Destination. ... Read More...

Re: 535i ED Quote - Dallas [shipo]

Shipo, Definitely great to know, and yet sorry to hear. I will be reaching out to Austin and Houston dealers today to see if the results are any different. Thanks for your insight, appreciate it, and I'll keep the list apprised to results. I went through this in 2002 wit Orange County, CA dealers, and the results weren't great then, either. Buying a used 5 Series

Re: http://newjersey.craigslist.org/car/614642413.html [mrfinagle]

$13,000 doesn't sound too bad; Autotrader shows several 2002 Sports listed for over $15,000. Still, I'd check it against Edmunds TMV and I'd also ask the guys in the "Real-World Trade-In Values" thread. The flaws you noticed are fairly inexpensive to correct. Does the car have a full service history? It's good that the "60,000 mile cooling system service" has ... Read More...

It's funny shipo

for 7 years and over 135,000 miles my Mom drove a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300E with RWD (no traction or stability control) and snow tires (during the winter). During the '90's we had some pretty nasty winters here in the suburbs of NYC (part of which fueled the SUV craze). My parents sold the 300E and leased one of the first 1998 CLK 320s (RWD) for four years. The winters ... Read More...

BMW 5-Series Extended Warranties

Re: 2001 BWM 530 warranty question [edbarry12]

Many folks, myself included, would advise that you simply "self insure" by taking the money that you would otherwise spend on the warranty and set it aside for unscheduled repairs. While you may not make out on any one car, the betting is that over years that you are a car owner, you'll come out well ahead in the end. FWIW, the last car that I bought the "extended warranty" ... Buying a used 5 Series

Re: 2001 BMW 525 [eastburg5]

1. Are there mechanical or body discrepancies that I should be on the lookout for in purchasing a vehicle such as this which has been driven infrequently? Yes, there are issues with engine oil (one year), brake fluid (two years), and coolant (four years, errr, I think) that are age and not mileage sensitive. You should be asking for a full service record for the ... Read More...
