2000 BMW 7 Series 4 Dr 740iL Sedan
Review
I've now owned this car for a little over a year and a half. Being that I needed a highway cruiser, this car was an excellent choice. Before buying these cars, find out if some of the common problems on your model have been addressed. Namely, the radiator and fan need to be replaced at around 60k-70k miles. The waterpump and thermostat need to be replaced at that time as well and as others have mentioned, the front suspension parts don't last too long. Don't forget though, this car weighs over 4,000 lbs! Driving this car will wear down the front suspension quickly. Expect to replace it every 50k miles or so. Also, the cupholder is flimsy, therefore I bought a wedge-type holder and it's great.
Favorite Features
The engine, excellent transmission, quick response on the gas pedal, auxilary ventilation, comfortable and quite. This car is so quiet on the highway, it's scary!
Suggested Improvements
I wish BMW would have created a double sun-visor one that allows the driver to cover both in front of him and on the side. Also, a quality cupholder would've been a plus and a better navigation system would be nice as well.

I purchased this car about a year ago and have really enjoyed every mile. I did have to replace the alternator, but other than that have had no major problems. The previous owner had problems mostly minor around 100,000. Everything is lovely now and now I just enjoy the ride.
Favorite Features
Performance, ride, backseat room, eye catching, sunshades, leather, heated steering wheel and seats, trunkroom .

750iL - Simply the Best
Vehicle
2000 BMW 7 Series 4 Dr 750iL Sedan
Review
Just bought a used 750iL BMW in pristine shape, although it already had 77,000 miles, the owner loved this car to death. The power of the V12, 5.4 liter engine is staggering. I own a 2003 Jaguar Vanden Plas, and it doesn't even compare to the 750iL, which has more playtoys, better feel, better acceleration with the steptronic. Going 80 mph in the BMW seems like you are barely moving, and I think it really gets 25 miles to the gallon on the freeway, not 20 as advertised, not to mention you can go 500 miles on one tank of gas on the highway, thanks to the 25 gallon tank. Hands down, I love my 750il BMW, and it is simply the best.
Favorite Features
V12 Engine, gadgets, leather seats are best in market, 6 disc CD (amazing sound system), navigation system, heated seats, one touch windows, ice cold air conditioning
Suggested Improvements
Better mileage off highway, but so what. If you can afford the car, you can afford the mileage.

Ultimate Texas Driving Machine - update
Vehicle
2000 BMW 7 Series 4 Dr 740iA Sedan
Review
I've now had the car for 30K miles and nearly 3 years. I still love it. I bought the car as a certified used unit & during the BMW extended warranty, I've had a new radiator and water pump as well as two oil leaks. Each time the dealer has promptly repaired the car for a $50 co-pay. New brake pads were my cost ($$$). I replaced the OEM Contintal Contitracs with Kumho Ecsta's and am very pleased with the improved mileage & I can't tell any significant difference in handling, but the car is much quieter. I hope to drive this car another 60K miles. The extended warranty expires within a month or so and I may hedge my bets by buying another warranty, based on my experience with the 1993 740
Favorite Features
The ride and handling, as well as the power and style.
Suggested Improvements
Ditch the Continental tires asap. Noisy and poor wear. Center console storage is not very useful.

2000 740IL Cosmos Black on Black
Vehicle
2000 BMW 7 Series 4 Dr 750iL Sedan
Review
This is a Classic Luxury Sports Car. I had always wanted one. But make no mistake, this is an extremely expensive car to fix/repair. A $78K auto of this level of sophistication is very touchy. So be prepared.
Favorite Features
Engine, Performance, Ride and Handling. For a large, heavy auto, this is impressive. Everyone that rides in it ends up with the "Wow" factor increasing.
Suggested Improvements
We already know about the cup-holders. Car is notorious for wind noise around moon roof. Raditor will definitely crack, it is only a matter of time. Car is very high tech & it will send you to the dealer often. Don't buy this car without some type of warranty. Despite this I love it. Go Figure!

Exceeded Expectations
Vehicle
2000 BMW 7 Series 4 Dr 740iA Sedan
Review
I always loved the E38 Seven Series. When the Sport Package came out I was even more impressed. I never thought I would own one. A deal came up this past winter and now my dream is reality. The car is awesome. Performance is stellar, the ownership experience is beyond expectation. What's amazing is that while the car is five years old, it demands the respect of a brand new premium car. I intend on keeping it for a very long time or until BMW gives me a compelling reason to upgrade and the new Seven, even with the improvements to the new design, won't do the trick. I'll keep my "used" car.
Favorite Features
M Styling and Sport Package options. Three spoke sport steering wheel and seats make the package not to mention the wheels. Just put a Sport Package next to a non sport and you will immmediately see the difference.
Suggested Improvements
None for this vehicle. BMW made their intent known when they created their new Seven. When they stick the shifter back where it belongs and get with the design then I'll look at new ones.

Fun car to drive but it is no Lexus
Vehicle
2000 BMW 7 Series 4 Dr 740iL Sedan
Review
The BMW 740 is with out a doubt the best driving large sedan on the market. However, it suffers from serious flaws that one would not expect from a car that costs in excess ot $65,000. The on board computer dispay failed (the dealer said pixel burnout was common at about 3 years). I have a broken the cupholder and numerous climate control knobs fail. One door panel has had problems staying on as does the side panel. It seems to cost me 2-4 thousand dollars every time I see my dealer. I have probably had $5000 worth of suspension work done over the last 18 months. My previous car was a Mercedes S420 at about the same age had very few problems. Quite frankly the BMW has been a terrible car.
Favorite Features
General road manners and a terrific sounding stereo.
Suggested Improvements
General build quality is poor. Poorly designed cupholders. Electronics are fragile and buttons and kobs just seem to quit working. Replacement parts are unbelievably expensive. Some people might not like the 13-14 mpg they will get in my normal day to day driving.

road trip heaven
Vehicle
2000 BMW 7 Series 4 Dr 740iL Sedan
Review
Bought this car knowing I'd be making many trips from Jax to Tampa. 40,000 miles later, I still am in love. Yes it hurts to pay $53 to fill up right now, but two near miss situations (I avoided stupid drivers) are worth every single penny. I cannot imagine driving anything else.
Favorite Features
Power. Agility. Safety. Beautiful lines- art on wheels. Anthracite Gray paint is very sophisticated, subtle changes in color depending on the light of the day. Backseat passengers ALWAYS rave about the room and ride.
Suggested Improvements
CUPHOLDERS. Slightly wider door panel to rest arm while driving.

Not reliable at all
Vehicle
2000 BMW 7 Series 4 Dr 740iL Sedan
Review
The car is fun to drive, but at $73,000, I wouldnt expect this many problems. The front suspension has been replaced, twice, the trannie was replaced, the dash stopped working, the fan blades EXPLODED and cut the radiator lines and punctured the hood. The drivers seat has stopped working 3 times, the nav system display broke, the engine leaks oil, and the car has less than 50,000 miles on it. Not worth the price paid at any cost.
Favorite Features
fast and quiet
Suggested Improvements
Fix: trannie, the water pump, the fan blades, the seats, the faulty suspension, the leaky engine, the dash, the nav system, the stuck sunroof, the galled privacy screens, the plastic parts on the radiator, the "clunking" sound I hear from the back of the car when I go over speed bumps.
