Hey my names Greg proud owner of a 1997 plymouth neon 5 speed what you need to do is go to wal*mart and buy an a/c recharger it comes in a can leave the car off while you do this regaurdless if it tells you to keep it running or not make sure you have someone with you while you do this when it says its charged stay under the hood and have someone turn the car on and turn the a/c ... Can anyone point me in the direction of a diagram or pics of all a/c hoses on a 1999 Dodge Neon? I recharged the a/c yesterday and today I think one of the hoses failed. Big cloud of a/c coolant came from under the hood with a hissing sound. Where ever the hose failed ( if it was the hose ) was under alot of pressure, pretty sure it wasnt the compressor but I cant find where ... Read More...

Look around alittle more before setting on this 00. First off it was the first year of the new design...therefore it will most likely have quite a few problems. Now if it has sat around along time and has "extremely low mileage" it may have more problems then if it had high mileage. malibu_jack: I have a first generation Neon, a 1999 to be exact. With Dodge I have noticed that later builds do not mean better quality (as is the case with other manufacturers). I am currently in the market for a used car. My toyota truck is fine but I am done with it (cant stand the handling, ride, pickup, anything). I am basically looking for a 2dr, 5spd economy car. I've owned and driven both, and also owned and driven the Focus ZX3. No problems on either. The 1999 handles better out of the box. The Neon S definitely needed better tires. Both cars had Goodyear GA's, but the GA's seemed grippy on the 1999 and sloppy on the 2002. Goodrich Comp T/A's were a major upgrade on the 2002. We ordered a new Neon R/T 2 months ago and took delivery last Friday. The car is flawless. This is the 3rd Neon in our fleet along with a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. We traded in a Nissan Altima Se that we had since we bought it new in 1995. We have had good luck with Neons and suspect that we are part of the Majority. Someone tried to sell me a 2001 Dodge Neon SE. Because the owner got the car from a rental company, all the documents are gone. All I got is the VIN number, so I really don't know whether the Neon is really a SE or some other trim. I can only find the VIN decoding on neon.org up to 1999.
