Re: 535i ED Quote - Dallas [tx_bmw]

I've been following the BMW related discussions here on Edmunds since I started researching my 1999 328i back in the summer of 1998. Through that entire time one thing has remained true, the Dallas area dealers will not negotiate an ED deal below MSRP (and very little off of MSRP for domestically sourced cars). The common consensus is to either allow them to screw ... Read More...

Re: BMW 2004 328 4DR Seden Maintainese Cost [windforceus]

I want to know BMW 2004 328 4DR Sedan, 60000 miles Maintainese Cost If i bring the car to BMW dealer or Private body shop. First off, if you haven't purchased the car yet, I would strongly advise you to have it inspected by a qualified BMW tech. Not much goes wrong on the newer 3 Series, but you still want to buy a good one. Now for your questions regarding costs. In most ... Read More...

Re: The gas gauge drops to 0 suddenly, but I really have gas! [absolutic]

What could be the problem? The E36(1992-1999) 3 Series cars had a similar issue. In that case the problem was caused by corrosion deposits on the fuel sending unit contacts within the gas tank. BMW cured the problem by introducing a replacement unit fitted with gold contacts that do not corrode. I solved the problem on my 1995 and 1998 3ers by using only Top Tier ... Read More...

BMW 3-Series Transmission Questions

Re: Transmission type in 1999 328ic [fixitrod]

hIt does not occur when braking but it is just riding at low speed as we are leaving the neighborhood. Wheel bearing, perhaps. The driveshaft fas a rubber coupling at the transmission as well as a center bearing. They should still be good on your car, but it is something else to check. I am familiar with visual and checking for play at the bushing; are there other indicators? ... Read More...

Re: Transmission type in 1999 328ic [roadburner]

Thanks for the speedy reply. Good question about the vibration. It does not occur when braking but it is just riding at low speed as we are leaving the neighborhood. Its not my daily driver so I'll check further on this. I'll inspect the bushings as well. I am familiar with visual and checking for play at the bushing; are there other indicators? I may have misspelled ... Read More...

Re: Transmission type in 1999 328ic [fixitrod]

1. Don't know if I got a bad set of front rotors or is something amiss in the front end. Any thoughts appreciated. What's the problem? A vibration when braking? If so, it could be lower control arm bushings. 2. Is this transmission a GM Getrag or GM GM because I want to service it. Well, there's no such thing as a GM Getrag; Modern BMW slushboxes are either built by GM ... Read More...

Re: Keeping a BMW 3 past 100k, or for over 10 years [sunilb]

roadburner-- great notes! Thanks! just curious... where do you account for changes to the cooling system, suspension, etc.? Do you consider these "scheduled" or "non-scheduled"? On a E36 or E46 # Series I would definitely replace the water pump and radiator prior to their normal failure point. For some reason, the cooling systems of 1994-1999 four cylinders ... Read More...

BMW 3-Series - AWD or RWD?

Re: Disappointing mileage in 335xi [habitat1]

"I think many/most 6-speed manual transmissions are geared for peak efficiency in the 70-75 mph range, not 55." Both of my 5-Speed manual equipped BMWs had their sweet spot for mileage somewhere north of 70 as well. My 2002 530i would do about 31 mpg at 75 while my 1999 328i would get more like 34-35 mpg at those same speeds. ;-) Best Regards, Shipo Read More...
