Chevy S10/GMC S15-Sonoma: Problems & Solutions

Re: 1996 GMC Sonoma Turn Signals not working [cs_tarheel34]

they should be fuses just like those in the dash... in the 96, I am thinking it might be a little different than an '01 like mine but there should be a fuse box under the hood. If the fuses under the hood are good and the bulb is good, than your problem lies elsewhere? Not sure where to go after that since I am not big on the electrical side of things.... (I drive around with ... Read More...

So what exactly are the fuses under the hood? ARe they the fusible links located in the box under the hood? What wire would that be inside there cause there are about 5 or so? Read More...

Re: 1996 GMC Sonoma Turn Signals not working [cs_tarheel34]

there are two sets of fuses - one in the dash and also under the hood. Check for blown fuses there. It is all an electrical connection and the most likely place to the connection to have a problem is where the electrical circuit is weakest. The bulbs being the weakest and most prone to burning out. The next is the fuses. Usually something causes fuses to blow, like a ... Read More...

Brake lights won't stay on

I own a 1996 GMC S15 Sonoma that is a basic truck, 4 cyl, 5 spd manual trans, and only has about 76K miles on it. Only option on the truck is A/C. Recently I noticed that the brake lights do not stay on when the brake pedal is depressed more than about 1/2 inch. They do come on when slight pressure is applied to the pedal, but once you put enough pressure on the pedal to stop, ... Read More...

Steering stiff, 1996 GMC Sonoma

I have a 96 GMC sonoma four pot auto, the problem is the steering is very stiff, when I go round a curve and let go of the wheel it doesn't move back to center. I have replaced everything from the steering box to the wheels...could this be a steering box problem (it is ajusted right, done by the garage), or could it be the power steering, like having air in it or old fluid? ... Re: '02 S10 ZR2 Issues [chevy02]

Hi, Not sure if this helps .... but ... I think there is as procedure in your manual to manually dis-engage from 4 low to hi gear ... Perhaps if you try that - it will get you into 4/2 hi for now ... Also, there is a TSB on the 3rd door handle ... below ... Door (Third) - Hard to Open/Handle Breakage File In Section: 08 - Body and Accessories Bulletin No.: 02-08-64-007 Date: ... Read More...

Manual Transmission

I just purchased a 1996 GMC Sonoma 4.3L with m/transmission. It shifts fine, and everything seems okay, but it makes clicking and clanking noises when you shift gears. Besides the noise it shifts fine, the clutch feels normal also. Are these noises normal for these trucks? I haven't owned a GMC before, so I don't know. JP Read More...
