Poor Choice for family vehicle
Vehicle
1995 Chevrolet Blazer 4 Dr LT 4WD Wagon
Review
Anything that could go wrong with this vehicle did go wrong. Although I was religious about regular maintance, there were always problems. Major Transmission problems, Major Brake problems and constant AC problems. I spent a good $3000 a year fixing and refixing the constant problems. I'm not buying another one of these vehicles ever again

Haven't had truck that long, had a few simple fixes (blinkers, rear windsheild wiper motor) and engine has a high idle when at operating temp. Other than that I love that little truck and it packs a lot more power than Explorers. They have no power whatsoever. My Dad has a '93 with 280,000 and tranny just began to slip in overdrive. Amazing trucks

I love everything about it

Maybe a little better 4x4. Doesnt always engage

This was the worst car I have ever owed. I was stranded many times due do the EGR issue. I have 16 service write-ups for the same issue and this does not include the times I had to immediately return to dealer because problem was not fixed or car died when exiting dealers service area. This vehicle was purchased new and it was a piece of junk. When I finally got rid of it I had to have it towed to the dealer. This was a common problem that GM was aware and they were not helpful.

Get every one of these off the streets. They should not be allowed to resell them.

Blazer

Review
I bought my Blazer for $1800 and put 10,000 miles on it. So far $850 for tranny rebuild. Fuel pump put on before I got it. 4wd works when it wants to. Shake the wires on transfer case sometimes works. EGR no good but you can buy a piece of screen wire from dealer for $16-20 that will reduce carbon build up. Gas mileage in city between 10 or 12 miles to gallon. Gets 17 or 18 mpg on highway. Brakes are no good. On slick surfaces they pulsate and make an awful racket. I guess it is a very poor ABS system. Not to mention I got truck for $1800 because tail lights would not work. Looks nice with $150 exhaust I had to put on because muffer rusted apart. Trim is starting to come off now.
Favorite Features
I like my new tires and my Geo Prism that gets 30 miles to the gallon. Balance gas mileage cost between the Geo and the Blazer and I probably average 20 mpg.
Suggested Improvements
Better brakes that stop faster while your sliding. Gas mileage improvments and better working 4WD would be nice. My mechanic said he put back better parts in tranny. Hope it holds up. Better visabilty around vehicle would be nice.

Great SUV!
Vehicle
1995 Chevrolet Blazer 4 Dr LT 4WD Wagon
Review
I've owned my Blazer for almost 11 years, and I am the original owner. With 218,000+ miles what can I say? We have had a recurring problem with the EGR valve and oxygen sensor but other than routine repairs we have had no problems. Replaced the main belt at 125,000 miles and finally replaced the muffler system at 210,000 miles. Also replaced the fuel pump at 212,000 miles. Rest of the equipment is still original.
Favorite Features
Towing capacity, and folding seats lay flat, unlike current SUVs. Comfortable to drive, and a very reliable SUV!
Suggested Improvements
Could have had better emissions system. Gas mileage is terrible, but what can you expect with an older SUV?

The worst thing I ever did was buy a beautifully kept up Blazer for a move across country. After over $1,000 in repairs before I got out of town (brakes, brakes, new radiator, brakes again.. egr shmee-g-r, oil change, etc) and another $350 on the road, in the middle of nowhere, for a new fuel pump, the thing lasted only 5 months thru the winter (without 4WD, which wouldnt work) before the engine blew. This car was very well taken care of by the previous owner and myself. Who knew? I knew there was a reason my Dad made that face when I said I was buying a Chevy. I guess after the Citation in the '80's he knew what was up.
Favorite Features
This is a nice-looking, comfortable vehicle which, when it runs well, is great to drive.
Suggested Improvements
They only made that engine for one year, so that's fixed, but brakes and the push button 4WD. I have also heard that the tranny goes bad quick. Mine was close.

Reliable vehicle with few flaws

1995 Chevrolet Blazer 2 Dr STD 4WD Utility
Review
I've owned my Blazer for 10 years now, original owner. The vehicle has proven to be very reliable, good off road, great towing, and nice on the highways. If I had to do it again, I would still buy this car. The car does have it's design problems: (1) every 40k I've had to pay $350 to get an emmissions valve replaced -- frustrating, (2) even though I have a heavy duty alternator package I've had to replace the battery 3 times -- again frustrating.
Favorite Features
Folding back seat -- lays down completely flat. Acceleration -- plenty of torque to beat most all cars off a stop-light.
Suggested Improvements
Emissions control valve -- annoyed that it has to be replaced every 40k miles, otherwise the engine idles terribly.

I have to put a lot of money in the car just go keep it in running condition. There always seems to be something wrong with it. I had to replace the transmission, the brakes a couple times, couple electrical problems. replace egr valve and fuel pump. I dont know what's gonna go wrong next.
