Explorers aren't junk, in fact they're far from it. I have a 1993 with 196,000 miles on it and it has been the single most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. The tranny is also original, and that should be saying something because I constantly tow my quads up to the mountains and steep grades. NO sign of wear there. abnormal brake wear

is it normal for a 1993 ford explorer to warp brand new rodors at only 5000 miles, and shred brake pads? the brake pads were cracked in the middle with a 1cm gap, and on one of the pads, half of the pad itself fell off. when i brake, the thing shimmeys and shudders. is there something wrong with my calipers or something? and i have to say, the pads and rodors were the most ... I have said this over and over again, but here goes one more time. The FORD EXPLORERS with the SOHC V6 have problematic engines and problematic automatic transmissions. alrighty. we own a 1993 ford explorer XLT 4by4. WELL, the four wheel drive does not work. we tried 3 new push button modules with no avail. then we did some investigating. there IS power to the push botton module. there is NO power to the motor on the back of the transmission. the four wheel drive relay located in the rear normally hums when the four wheel drive is activated. ...
