3.9 MAG ENGINE SUITABLE/TRANSMISSION RATIO SHD BE LOWER GEARED BUT ACCEPTABLE AS DAKOTA HAS PULLED 1500# IN BED + 2000# IN TRAILER W/O CHOKING.REBUILDING ENGINE AND CLUTCH AFTER 170K MILES/ALL OTHER COMPONETS WORKING WELL AND WILL UPGRADE AS NEEDED.4X4 ON LOWFLY IS NICE..NO BUTTONS/NO HUBS NO PROBLEMS/MS

Good Truck

Review

Good overall truck. My truck has 410 000 km's on the original engine, and still runs very strong. 318 5.2L V8 is a very reliable and quick engine (lots of power for this smaller class truck.) This truck does not owe me anything. I would encourage anyone to buy this truck if they found a good looking used one.

Favorite Features

The engine. Very responsive with a lot of torque. Fuel economy also is not that bad considering the size of the engine. Adding a K&N Filter to this truck improved performance and fuel economy quite noticably

Suggested Improvements

Like another person said on this site, I also had some paint peel. Luckily this truck has a very good primer as rust never formed. I did however quickly sanded down the areas that were peeling and repainted them.

Review

I'm in love with my 92 Dakota. There is nothing I would rather drive. I also have a 97 Dakota but I like my V-8 much better. I think they are well built pieces of machinery.

Favorite Features

I love the power of the V-8 and the way the girls look at it when I go down the road. haha! I love the sound of it with a 2-chamber flowmaster.

Suggested Improvements

The only thing I wish it had is a good five speed transmission!!

Brought this truck in 2002 with 153000 on it. Reliable, great pickup on the highway and excellent condition, looks and runs new.

Favorite Features

The speakers and look of the truck itself.

Suggested Improvements

Need more miles to the gallon.

I bought this truck when it had 216,000 miles on it. I only paid $850. I figured i would put a motor in it in a few months but it ran great for two years and then I ended up selling it for $1200.(I did put rims and a paint job on it)This truck was great. I want it back!!If you have on keep it!!!

One Tough Truck

I bought this baby with 22K on the odometer. I've used and abused this truck until just recently. Hauled kids and their stuff to college from Virgina to Maine. It's just 2WD but I've taken it to some awful spots with my dog to do some great bird hunting. The extended cab is only good for a dog and gear, but who cares. I'm trading it in for another Dakota. With 132,000 on the odometer and no major repairs, this baby owes me nothing. If you can get your hands on another like this treasure it.

Favorite Features

The pull out cup rack above the glove box held many a hot cup of coffee. Sound system was great and the best feature was a sturdy and comfortable 60/40 bench seat for long drives. The engine was strong and never failed.

Would like to see a bit more room in the extended cab.

Review

If you are looking for a reliable, then you have found one. I put mine through Hell , and it stood strong. The only bad thing about it was that I am 6 foot 2, and it is a bit small on the inside. If you are into quality sound, then the dakota is for you. It is incredible for pure sound because of how small it is.

Good Drive. Easy to park, and a fun great little truck.

I have owned 2 1992 Dodge Dakotas both sports and both short box. Regret loosing both of them. First one was a V-6 that I lost to a roll over accedent and the second was a V-8 that I traded in (Stupid!!!!) The V-6 was decent on gas and the V-8 what can I say. You dont buy a V-8 with worrys about MPG

I had every avalible toy on my 1992 V- 8. And most aftermarket toys also. What can I say? Who could build a better truck. NO ONE!!!!!!

None really. Dodge hit the nail on the head with the Dakota

I bought my truck for the simple fact that it has a V8 in a little truck, I wanted a little hotrod and I got one. This truck runs great looks perfect and has never let me down! The only bad thing is it has a small gas tank so in town driving must be kept to a minimum!

Review

I've had my Dakota for 2 1/2 years. It starts on the first turn of the key every time even in Minnesota's cold winters. Yesterday for the first time, it didn't start. That's because I left my lights on while I was at work all day. I got it jumped and everything was fine.
