LOL! Yes, you are right about everything you said (or implied with sarcasm!). :-P I am still weighing it, but if I decide to go with a Fit, I am going to wait a year to put more cash together for the down payment. As far as low profile tires, the ones on the Fit are 185/55s, and the ones on the Yaris are 185/60s, so it's not a huge difference ... Read More

Toyota is offering a 2 year/25K mile free maintenance. After getting the car, I looked at the maintenance plan and it seems that Toyota recommends only regular oil changes/tire rotations at 6K/6 months for this car till about 90K miles. So basically, Toyota is offering only 4-5 oil changes. i.e a value of only $100 instead of what I'd initially thought of to be around $200-$250.

I'm glad to hear that both you and raggy1 noticed this as well! My 2010 Yaris automatic also jerks/applies the brake while I am coasting between 20-25 miles an hour. I also noticed it between 30-35, so I figured it was related to the downshift. However, when I notice this issue it happens for 4-5 seconds and does not happen every time the car downshifts. Toyota’s mighty subcompact is built with enough style, safety and substance to place it squarely atop the burgeoning economy class. That is a bit surprising but only a bit: they weren't plastering themselves all over the airwaves like some others (Toyota, Hyundai, Dodge, Ford...etc). I think that particular corporate attitude and their relatively high pricing came back to bite them this time.

Honda doesn't take anyone seriously. That's why they charge so much for their cars. So far, they can get away with it because most of the competition don't take themselves seriously. Toyota doesn't help by overpricing their cars either, but people are willing to pay it, it seems, even for the Yaris and Fit. Besides, NO ONE takes GM and the Aveo/Cobalt seriously...I don't even think GM does yet. They've always ... Read More

Toyota hasn't been a big believer in lots of standard safety equipment until very recently. So it wasn't a big surprise that the first Yarises in '06 had none at all. Standard ESC is going to be mandated in a very short time (2 years) anyway, so Toyota loses little by making it standard earlier, and gains the nice PR of it.
