editorial in Automotive News today mentions that sales of what they call their "budget class" - consisting of Aveo, Rio, Accent, Yaris, and ForTwo - were up a whopping 33% for the first quarter of the year. Way to go subcompacts!!! Unfortunately, AN classifies cars by starting price range, not by size, so the Fit gets thrown in with the larger compact cars (Cobalt, Focus, Sentra, Elantra, Corolla/Matrix, etc). But the ... My Yaris Hatchback Experience
Written by: podred on Mar 26, 2008 2:01:19 PM
As you regular readers know, I have quite a collection of cars from the extreme exotic car end of the spectrum, Ferrari F50 & Bugatti Veyron to the opposite extreme 2008 Yaris Hatchback S. I must say that I'm truly shocked at just how much I am enjoying the Yaris. I originally bought it for my daughter, who just had to have what she described as "this cute little red car". ... And sadly, I must agree with you..... those days are _long_ gone, today it's ..... Hello? Officer Bob? Yes sir, I know I was going 144 mph on the Freeway. (see there IS a downside to owning an F50 Ferrari) haha yep, so true although I don't own a Ferrari. I've had some blazingly fast cars in the past tho. What a waste that now we have all the power but ... Read More

Yaris vs Fit

Watch the tests and guess which car this magazine picked as sub of the year. Regarding the American media raving over the Fit and all but ignoring the Yaris, first one must understand the publishing business and the influence of the advertisers. Toyota does a lot of advertising but does not "expect" anything in return other than seeing their ad. Honda on the other hand rides on the edge of unethical, passing favors to the editors and road testers. I know this as I have friends ... Read More

My question is why the American media want us to believe that the Honda Fit is the best subcompact out there when the numbers don't bare that out. The Yaris wins on acceleration, braking, steering feel, fuel mileage, price, crash test and comfort. The Fit has a better dash and flippy back seats. The foreigners picked the Yaris over the Fit. So why do the American media want us to buy ... Read More

Here ya go. This is a test of the Yaris sedan Auto. I got the hatch which is a smaller, lighter car. Watch and you may want a Yaris too. Funny how the magazines only compare the Yaris sedan with the Fit hatch when doing track tests. Hmmm. http://www.cars.com/go/video/player.jsp?makeid=47&year=2007&modelid=8242&locatio- - n=MW_L_2007_Toyota_Yaris.flv&aff=national

Oh I don't hate Toyotas. I don't even hate Hatchbacks. I just don't see how a Yaris should get less highway mileage than a Corolla. If I were going to have to live with a smaller engine I would expect it to get much better fuel mileage. All I was saying was the S on the back of a Toyota doesn't represent the same thing as the SI on the back ... Read More

www.performancetoyota.net has a 48 hour sale on this Saturday and Sunday where they will sell any Yaris in stock for $1,000 off MSRP. What a difference a year makes. I thought I got a steal last weekend at $489 off MSRP at Wolfchasetoyota.com. Happens to me every time.

My experience with a manual versus automatic, in spite of what the EPA says, is that the highway is all about rpms so many autos actually do as good or better on the highway these days. In the city, the manual is worth 2-4 mpg because of the ability to better anticipate situations and shift to the proper gear. The control and smoothness of the manual leaves any automatic in the ... I think that your fuel savings are going to neglible with the MT (1.6 mpg) according to www.fueleconomy.gov, but you probably do get a little more power with the MT and you probably did save about $800 on the front end, and it will probably cost less in repairs over the life of the car if you aren't too hard on clutches.

You have kind of an unusual configuration. Most people are trying to save money by getting a Manual Transmission, but you have the most expsensive option package with it. I have the least expensive option package with a Automatic Transmission. You have a very reasonable documentation fee at $55 compared to the $348.50 that I had to pay.

It appears to be a $700.00 discount. I emailed three dealers for their very best price on a bare bones Yaris with at least air and this one was offered to me.

I just bought my second Yaris from Wolfchase Toyota in Memphis on 4/14/2007 (my son now has the first one). I paid $13,200 ($13,689 MSRP) for a Polar White hatchback with AT, Option package A, arm rest and floor mats. This was the one with the least fluff stuff on the lot. Last year on 4/30/2006 I had to pay full MSRP for an MT hatchback. They must have had close ... Read More

One local dealer in Boston quoted for Yaris Hatchback with these options. All without side airbags and ABS options. How's that? I thought Power Package comes with 15" alloy wheels. But they only mentioned steel wheels with wheel covers. * 5 speed, with Power Package - $12626 * Auto, without Power Package - $12762 * Auto, with Power Package - $13484

Sorry I'm out over in the west (Nevada). But the best price I got (Hatchback Yaris) was $12,207 (and it was NOT easy to get a decent price). It is sad that so many dealers try to take everyone to the cleaners... Have you tried Costco pricing? They usually come in around $150 over invoice for little cars like the Yaris. Good luck! edit: just wanted to add that price was ... Read More

Friend of mine is interested in Yaris hatchback (5 sp, no power options). Anyone got a good deal on this model in Boston? I have been reading this forum that production number is low for hatchback.
