Review of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

  • The 2001 Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup suited more for the general consumer than for commercial use.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Silky V8, Toyota build quality, less-than-full-size maneuverability.

  • Cons

Lacks wide range of choice offered by domestics, somewhat uncomfortable front seats, meager rear cab room on Access Cab, chintzy interior trimmings.

  • What's New for 2001

Newly optional on Limited is a package that matches the bumpers and tailgate handle to the body color. The TRD Off-Road package is now available on Access Cabs with a V8 engine, while models equipped with a V6 receive an upgraded alternator. A note-pad holder is now optional on SR5 and Limited, while Base regular cab trucks lose their standard cassette player. Two new colors are available, filling three slots left vacant by old colors that have been discontinued.

Efficiency compromised by style

Vehicle: 2001 Toyota Tundra 4dr Access Cab SR5 2WD SB (3.4L 6cyl 5M)

The only vehicles I have ever owned have been long-lasting Toyota pick up trucks. After owning the Tundra, I am ready to switch makes, which I never thought I would do. This vehicle guzzles gas, makes too much noise, and never seems able to find the right gear. I am willing to give up some comfort to get more efficiency.

Buy It. It rocks. I get about 18mpg. good enough for me & a truck. I have the "Ivan Stewart" edition, so I am god-like. best truck made 2001-2002 9.90 out of 10.00

Vehicle: 2001 Toyota Tundra 4dr Access Cab SR5 2WD SB (3.4L 6cyl 5M)

I have had the truck almost 3 years now. Have had no problems of any kind. It is a very comfortable ride with plenty of power. I put a shell on it & experienced no performance drop off. Gas mileage actually improved by 1/2 mi. per gal.

Great truck!

Best v-6 truck on the

Vehicle: 2001 Toyota Tundra 4dr Access Cab SR5 2WD SB (3.4L 6cyl 5M)

After test driving all full-size trucks on the market found this one to be the best. Smooth quiet ride, better fit & finish than Dodge,GM or Ford. Engines are more advanced than domestics. V-6 is not fast but strong & steady no matter what the load. Interior materials & finish far superior to domestics. Avergage about 18-20 mpg. '01 models built better than '00 trucks. Sloppy assembly evident in dented radiator and mis-aligned bed. Otherwise an excellent truck.

I own a 2001 Toyota Tundra that has just over 60,000 miles. When I slow to a stop it will from time to time stall. I start the truck and it runs fine. This doesn't happen every time I slow to a stop. ...

I've got 3 kids and, though the Tundra is decent enough for short trips and the like, I'm glad we bought a Suburban for the longer trips. My kids are still young (8, 5, 3) but can really get on our n...
