Mine is a 2009 Tacoma Regular cab, mt, 4wd, 2.7 motor. I too have the black exhaust. 3 dealers showed no interest, but Penske Toyota took me in and linked to the engine. All showed fine. Forward to January 2012, I'm at 40k miles, average 22 mpg and no drivability issues. I feel the oil is a bit dirty, but not excessive. Unrelated, my 2004 Tacoma xcab, auto, 4wd, 3.4 motor ... Okay, this DOES work ! I own a 2009 Tacoma. When your light comes on, do this BEFORE you reset to the new, true, & final running tire pressure of 29 to 30 PSI. First, pressure up ALL your tires to 35 PSI (5 with spare tire sensor & only 4 for 2009 & up models). Then reset the sensor light with the reset button, as called for in the owners ... Read More
jmack: The first thing is to find out if the Toyota program for Tacoma frame rust program is still in effect. Back when I sold them my 1999 Tacoma - in Sept. 2008, they were qualifying rusted Tacomas under two circumstances: 1. Surface rust had to be, in their estimation, in excess of their "standards". At the time their standards were they didn't want very much surface rust on any Tacoma ... Read More
I don't know about Toyota "National", but Southeast Toyota had at least one complaint. It went to arbitration. At the very least, I'd call that a complaint. I traded my Tacoma on a Frontier. What a relief I don't have to drive that ****** anymore. It's a shame, too, becasue besides the transmission issue, it's a good truck.
Carbon is a normal byproduct of combustion. The "soot" you are refering to is pure carbon that is left over after the combustion of the hydrocarbons has occured in the combustion chamber. Other byproducts of the automotive engine include H20, C02, N0x, CO, et all. Because complete combustion is impossible - you will always have soemthing left over. A quick internet search of any model will reveal that a lot of ... Read More

Same deal for me on an 02 Tacoma frame I had replaced in 2009. I had abotu $700 worth of items I had to pay for that weren't covered. I got no where with them. It depends on the model year of your Tacoma. Toyota originally included a sensor on all five tires, but starting with 2009 models, and continuing through the current (2011) models they stopped adding them to the spare. The sensors are little radio transmitters on the inside of the wheel, attached to the valve stem.
I am a Toyota fan, always have been, but I only owned my 2009 Tacoma Pre-Runner Double-Cab for 1 1/2 years. I was tired of the surging at low speeds from the Transmission. I agree to pursue this issue with the NHTSA. Don't know if a common trait with this problem is where it is made. Mine was made in Mexico. A question to be asked also is other vehicles by Toyota employ the drive ... Read More
I've been lurking for awhile but thought I'd share this re my 2009 Tacoma standard cab automatic 2WD. I purchased this vehicle in mid-April & now have ~1,150 miles. The automatic transmission is largely electronically controlled & has a known software issue that Toyota has already issued a TSB for. Unfortunately, the TSB seems to have made the problem worse, at least in my case, & Toyota doesn't seem to have ... Read More

I must say that as I am currently looking for a small/medium size truck to purchase in the next few weeks, I will not be looking at the 2009 Tacoma any further with so many problems reported. I had narrowed my choice down to the Tacoma and Frontier and these posts just made up my mind for me...maybe if they start losing sales, they'll take notice and fix this serious problem. ... I have filed paperwork for arbitration concerning the transmission problem on my 2009 Tacoma. The company that is conducting the hearing is hired and payed for by Toyota.I was given the options of either presenting via oral presentation or via documents only. I chose the latter. I do not have hopes of winning but am keeping my fingers crossed.
Well.. mine is finally screwed....after 125k it died. I had the same problem as you guys since 2001, the slip, clunk, the dealer mechanic and Toyota Office of the president "go screw your self" speech, if you guys have the problems now, please make sure you document it and stay on it, after a year the dealer will blow you off. "this is the first time i heard about it" from ... Read More
I thought I had a transmission problem with my 2009 Tacoma Double Cab 2x4. I would come to a red light and when I hit the brakes the rear tires would start spinning and the engine would start reving up. I took it to the dealer twice and was told the computer showed no problems. I filed a complaint with the U. S. Corporate Office in Torrance, CA. They sent a ... Read More
Hi paulb67. I'll try :) . The money factor that you were quoted for this truck looks good. It is right in line with Toyota Financial Services' buy rate for it. The other important number to focus on when leasing is your vehicle's selling price. It's excellent that you already know what that number is. It is difficult for me to say how attractive it is, however, without something to compare ... Read More
Please help. My zip code is 23322. I am trying to buy 2009 Tacoma DBL cab, 4x4, manual transmission; 6 cyl with off road pkg. One internet sales person has said the firm price is 28769 minus the $1000 rebate. I had offered $26500. The other sales person at another dealership quoted me $27850. I thought since I was looking for a manual I could get a good deal. This is ... Read More
I'd like to see where the "1000 mile" benchmark is mentioned in any Toyota publication. And if the truck is normal why would they reset anything. That just doesn't ring true. B
followup: I took my 09 Tacoma V6 to the dealer today and was told basically the same thing as other reports. That's normal. It will learn your driving habits. You will adjust. They acknowledge that it happens but not that it's a problem/issue. They reset the "shift logic" portion of the computer and told me to drive it for at least 15 minutes. That didn't help so I went back and ... Read More
Wesley Chapel Toyota here in Tampa area test drove my truck yesterday and said it was normal. However, the mechanic reset the computer and told me to do the same thing, drive around for about 30 minutes with many stop and go's. Guess what, transmission still acting the same and hesitating when stepping on gas after decelerating. He said it will take about 1,000 miles for the computer to learn my ... Read More
After 3000 miles on my 2009 Tacoma, I am still experiencing and feeling the engine rev when accelerating from a slow speed. I am ready to file a second complaint with my dealership and Toyota because I feel that this is a safety hazard when trying to accelerate out of a tight situation. I feel like I am losing power. There has to be something wrong with the device which controls ... Read More
Tacomshane- That response sounds like something straight from the company. Like a service manager trying to shoo you away. I have the same issue with my transmission. 2009 Tacoma Prerunner V6 auto with about 20 miles. After turning a corner and accelerating, the transmission seems to have shifted into to low a gear making the engine rev and then an immediate hard shift. I don't call it slipping, though. It also ... Read More
I test drove a brand new 2009 Tacoma at my dealership the other day and experienced the same engine rev while accelerating from a slower speed. The chief mechanic at Balise Toyota in West Springfield Mass told me that it is most likely a design issue. He reset the computer and told me to drive around town for 15 minutes before getting on the highway. After following his advice I am ... Read More
