Review
I love my Tacoma. It is excellent truck. I researched all mid-size trucks and test drove every model out there. I have owned 4 Toyota sedans, but was open minded to other manufactures. I narrowed it down to Nissan or Toyota, b/c Chevy, Ford, Dodge don't compare. Nissan Frontier was comparable, but didn't like the interior, or the sales tactics of the dealer. Toyota brought everything together in a nice package. I bought the TRD Sport 4x2 but wish I would have got the 4x4 since I off road a lot more than I thought I would, next time. The borla exhaust and high flow intake that came with the TRD package REALLy makes a big difference, +20hp, making it sound cool and haul balls.
Favorite Features
TRD package, Bed 110volt outlet, Double Cab, endless storage, hood scoop, Cool design (inside and out)
Suggested Improvements
MPG add to overhead display, make the hood scoop functional, Line input in audio system, built in satelite radio, fog lights work with out headlights on

Avoid Toyota!!
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma V6 4dr Access Cab 4WD SB (4.0L 6cyl 5A)
Review
Shifting shudder and large clunk when stopping and starting "just part of the design" per Toyota. See http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tacoma/66233-toyota-addresses-tacoma-transmission/ for other reports. Toyota quality and customer service terrible! Also, according to Toyota, it is acceptable for their dealers to put used tires on a new truck when the dealer is unable to fix another customer's tire balance problem. Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of buying a Toyota!! You will not get what you pay for -- you'll only hear that your problems are "design features".

Toyota should back its product, not call problems "design features".

After spending endless hours on Edmunds, I decided to pull the trigger. Traded a 01 BMW X5 with 52K miles and 11 pages of maintenance records. What a relief! The Tacoma's interior is big, got the 4x2 sport pack with JBL audio and tow. If you don't need 4x4 why haul the extra weight around? First tank of gas gave me 19 mpg (87 RON per manual)combined. Feels solid, seats have good support, plenty of space in the rear, good visibility, suspension is on the spot, not too soft, not too hard, gearbox is smooth (A/T) as far as performance, I only have 220 miles but I can tell you this: 65mph with 1450 rpm is sweet!
Favorite Features
4 doors, short bed fits the garage. The long does not. 110V outlet in the back, composite bed-liner, do not get the OEM bike rack, they use the rail system but they sit 4-5 inches out and are not sturdy. Rocky mountain sells a nicer and sturdier unit for $35.00. JBL audio rocks.
Suggested Improvements
Home-link. Scion has it...they think Tacoma owners have no garages...Ipod jack, MP3 capability, sunroof, tailgate lock.

Two nagging issues
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma 4dr Access Cab 4WD SB (2.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This truck looks awesome, the fit and finish is perfect, and for a 2.7L 4 cylinder it has plenty of get up and go. Gas mileage has been on average about 19 MPG combined. My only two complaints; between 55 - 65 MPH there's a noticable steering wheel flutter which occurs intermittantly. When using the A/C the power loss on the engine is agonizing. Enough that you have to gear down to go up any hills you would normally not have to down shift for.
Favorite Features
Exterior & interior fit and finish Gas mileage Well designed interior layout Comfortable seating Very fun to drive
Suggested Improvements
Eliminate steering wheel flutter Fix power robbing A/C unit

Best Truck Out There
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma V6 4dr Double Cab 4WD SB (4.0L 6cyl 5A)
Review
I looked at all the mid-size trucks and you will not find a better made or looking truck than the Tacoma. All the other trucks seem to always be on sale but not the Tacoma 4x4. Toyota knows they have a good thing and you pay a little more to get one, but its well worth it. These trucks will hold their value and are built to last. The interior is very roomy and quite for a truck. I got the Sport Package with the upgraded interior and I love it. The hood scope adds a nice touch and gives it a little aggressive look. The V6 has plenty of power and is quick to respond. Ive only got 500 miles on mine (drove from Sacramento to Reno over the weekend) and the drive was very relaxing.
Favorite Features
Looks, quality, back windows go down all the way (great for the dog) controls for the radio on steering wheel, comfort and roomy inside.
Suggested Improvements
Power operated rear window, moon roof, navigational system,

The Big Red Tacoma
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma 2dr Regular Cab 4WD SB (2.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
The only issue that I have is that this model does not come in the automatic transmission. I have had some difficulty in learning on how to drive a manual again but that has not taken away from my overall enjoyment of this truck so far. This truck has a superb ride and feel.
Favorite Features
Having a 4 cylinder engine with 4X4 capabilities. The cloth interior appears to be rugged yet stylish. I believe this will hold up longer than other interiors I have had in the past.
Suggested Improvements
Manufacture the truck in automatic transmission.

Peppy performance & excellent fuel economy
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma 4dr Access Cab 4WD SB (2.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
The fuel economy has been pleasant surprise avg. 27 mpg once got 27.76 over 400 miles mixed driving never less than 25.23. The larger than avg. 2.7L 4 cyl has plenty of low end torque with the manual trans. This trucks interior is very comfortable. The truck feels very safe and stable at high interstate speeds. I spend most of my driving on public roads where this truck feels stable and manuverable, not tippy.
Favorite Features
great fuel economy, comfort, performance, styling.
Suggested Improvements
Lighter alloy wheels for SR5 package.
