Review

Lets start by saying that Im not partial to any truck brand, you name it, it doesn't matter. I do the research the best I can, if that research shows one or the other to be the better buy/quality then thats my truck. Who knows? I could spend all day listing what I like about this truck so I will stick to the bad. Year one I had three or four hard starts, don't know why but hasn't happened since. The brakes seem a little weak. I do own the biggest model Tacoma but they could still improve a bit. At 1-1/2yr, 43k miles the release strap on the passenger side back seat pulled out (very inconvenient). Still, problems are minimal.

Favorite Features

Styling, ground clearance, four door w/long bed (nice), electric outlet in bed on sport package, hood scoop, under seat storage, temp gage and, its readiness to accept aftermarket parts (lift kits, custom grills etc).

Suggested Improvements

Stronger brakes, easier access hood release, more rugged pull strap on psngr side backseat release, a little more of a subtle horse increase on cruise control. Driver door armrest has split under fabric at left elbow. Cheap!

Review

I have owned everything from Expeditions to Volvos and I am more pleased with this than any other. The ride is great and at 6'4" and 300 lbs I am plenty comfortable. Even the 4x2 handles very well off road and can get more places than larger 4x4s. Great for traveling. I have been from GA to WV, NY, and Key West with friends over summer vacation and we were all comfy. Costs about $50 a tank to fill and I get about 365 miles to a tank. One heck of a bang for your buck!! I will be buying another very soon.

Favorite Features

Ride quality, interior appointments, and exterior styling.

Suggested Improvements

Why doesn't the back window drop like the Tundra? That'd be great. Leather should be an affordable option.

Review

I bought this Tacoma in oct of 2006. It's a 2.7 i4, 5spd manual, 4x4 w/ ac. The truck itself is great. Handles well on the highway as well as offroad. My only complaint is the 5spd manual transmission. It does not shift smoothly. It sometimes hangs up going into reverse and 2nd gear. I have taken it back to the dealer a few times and was told that while they test drive it there wasn't any problem shifting. I am 55 yrs old and have been driving manual transmission trucks and cars for a while. This is the first one that felt like the trans was low on oil, or the shifter was bent out of shape. That has been the only problem I have had so far.

Favorite Features

Great off road. Tight turning radius. I have the stock dunlap 245/75R16 tires. Have been in some real thick mud and in 4wheel low range I pulled right out of it. On the highway it's a charm. Cruising at 65 mph on the turnpike is smooth and quiet.

Suggested Improvements

Fix the manual transmission!

Review

I've been a car guy all my life. Never had much interest in a truck. I'm convinced that some car guys at Toyota got together and decided to make a truck for car guys. I've never had as many compliments about any car I've owned, including a 91 Vette. I like the ride and feel of the truck and the handling is off the charts for a factory truck with a warranty. I average about 22-24 mpg and really enjoy my time behind the wheel. Granted, it's not an off road machine, but I don't need it to, either. In a nutshell, I enjoy leaving behind full size V8 trucks that cost thousands more, and even leaving behind V6 Mustangs and Camaros on the mountain roads around my home. Thanks Toyota!

Favorite Features

The exterior styling is great and really turns heads. People are always telling me they love it and that they've never seen one quite like it. The handling is great and the power is always there when you want some.

Suggested Improvements

Supercharge the 4.0 V6.

2006 Toyota Tacoma 2dr Regular Cab SB (2.7L 4cyl 4A)

Review

I made a mistake purchasing this vehicle. It's ride is way too harsh, and the fuel economy is disappointing. I got the 4-cyl automatic, and consistently get 22 mpg. While that is not abysmal, I expected so much more. The truck has no personality, and is not fun to drive. The build quality is quite good and very solid, but sound suppression in the cab seems non-existent. For all the high praise this truck gets, I find that this truck is definitely not for me.

Favorite Features

Car-like surfaces in the interior.

Suggested Improvements

Needs more sound insulation, better fuel economy, and adjustable ride.

This truck has performed exactly as I have needed it to. I have hauled and towed thousands of pounds over the past 2 years without a hint of power loss or suspention drop. The back seat is also perfect for driving my kids around. I have 3 other friends with this truck that feel the same way. Solid truck, solid buy!!

I have had this truck for almost 2 years and love it. It has a decent amount of power for a midsize truck.

Favorite Features

I love the interior setup. It has a very clean setup and there is no lack of cupholders.

Suggested Improvements

I wish you could adjust the a/c vents around a little more. My biggest complaint though would have to be the tie down point. Very flimsy for tying my dirtbike down. Tying 2 bikes down is even worse. There is so much flex that you have to stop to retighten and hope your bike doesn't end up on the road.

2006 Toyota Tacoma V6 4dr Double Cab 4WD SB (4.0L 6cyl 6M)

Review

I have always owned Toyotas. My first was a 1986 that ended up with 276,000 mile, second a 1994 ext cab 4x4 that I sold to buy this truck. I ordered this vehicle having never driven this model because I am so loyal to Toyota. It took 6 months to arrive. I ordered a silver double cab TRD 4x4 with 6 speed manual transmission. This truck has been great so far and I love driving it.

Favorite Features

Reliability. Tire pressure sensor (even keeps track of pressure in the spare). Six disc in dash changer. Seats.

Suggested Improvements

Rear view mirror creates bad blind spot. Clutch needs some work. I have only owned manual transmission Toyotas and this is the most finicky of all. The clutch tends to slip if too much throttle is applied and stutters badly when you don't use enough throttle. I haven't gone to dealer yet, but might.

Review

It's been almost one year since I purchased my 06 TRD Crew Cab Short Box and overall it was a great buy. It has been very reliable, gets relatively good mileage (at 11.2k miles, I've averaged 17.75 MPG) and is fun to drive.

Favorite Features

Go anywhere ability - I hunt in very remote places and this thing is impossible to get stuck. Surprisingly strong engine, yet it gets very good gas mileage (20.2 is my best to date).

Suggested Improvements

Tailgate: isn't strong enough (thin sheet metal) and needs to be reinforced in future models. Accessory boxes in back seat should go all the way across to accommodate long items. I wish there were a few more options (sunroof, navigation, etc.) so I could get a factory installed accessory.

Review

My truck has been wonderful to own. I have almost 25,000 miles on it and it has not given my any problems.

Favorite Features

I love the 6 disk CD changer and the fact that with gas prices the way they are, I can get almost 400 miles of driving (combo city/highway) on a tank of gas.

Suggested Improvements

Make more options available standard. I would like to see more options for wheel selections as well.
