Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma 4dr Access Cab SB (2.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
When I first bought the truck I loved it, it was great and just what I wanted. However after about 5k I started to get a bad clutch chatter like you are about to stall only worse. I brought that to the dealer's attention, said it was normal. I have been driving stick shift for a while and that is not normal, even after giving it lots of gas the chatter would still happen. The worst part of the whole thing is that at 26k the clutch blew, I had to have it towed to the dealer where they said it was not covered by the warranty and I would have to pay $1400 to fix it-everything was bad in the clutch, even the springs were broken which they said was because I was a bad driver.
Favorite Features
It is comfortable, but I would not recommend this truck because of its clutch and power train issues which toyota knows about and does nothing about it. Buying a new truck with a warranty you don't think you will be paying repair costs but with this truck you will be after only 1 year.
Suggested Improvements
The clutch!

2WD is fine with Traction Control option
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma 2dr Regular Cab SB (2.7L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I'm extremely happy with my purchase two years later. Vehicle performs flawlessly in the snow and ice of the Massachusetts Berkshires. Insist on traction control options if you live in a similar locale, they have done the job consistently for me. Meanwhile, I get the mileage advantages of a 2WD power train. Seats are a little thin but not uncomfortable.
Favorite Features
Traction control, limited slip differential and ABS. Excellent highway mileage and large gas tank. Center seat belt for my dog, Sam Adams.
Suggested Improvements
The dash, while very readable with easy to use and reach controls looks a bit cheap. Hooks that hold the floor mats in place pull out too easily.

No Confidence!

2006 Toyota Tacoma 4dr Access Cab SB (2.7L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I loved my 2006 Tacoma for about 18000 miles. It was a great truck until it decided to accelerate while my foot was on the brake pulling into my garage. Fortunately only the truck was damaged and my house was spared. I took the truck to the dealer to check over for the cause of the acceleration. Couldn't find a problem. Toyota regional also couldn't find a problem. I repaired the damage on mine and traded it immediately. I would never feel safe in the Tacoma again. Be careful if you are considering the Tacoma!!
Favorite Features
Reliable, comfortable, good looking truck.
Suggested Improvements
Fix the random acceleration problem. This is a safety issue! It's also a very expensive problem to the owner.

I am more than satisfied with the ownership experience, from the performance, features, and low maintenance to the positive comments I get from others about the truck. I only wish I had specified the "outside temp / compass" feature and I also wish the radio had a 'aux" input for iPod and XM radio input.

I got out of a big truck (Titan) and into a little truck (Tacoma) to better fit into my garage. What a mistake. It turned out to be one of the most uncomfortable vehicles I have ever owned. The driver's seat was like sitting in a hammock with my rear end sitting in a depression and my thighs being elevated. Not good for extended drives. The back seat was not overly comfortable according to my wife. Fuel economy was not impressive, 17.5-18 mpg. Paint started out looking really nice, but ended up being very susceptible to chips and scratches. The steering was very vague, with very little road feel, and tended to wander. Soft suspension with any kind of a load. Lots of road noise.
Favorite Features
Good storage, sharp looking, mechanically reliable
Suggested Improvements
Telescoping steering wheel, MP3 or IPOD auxiliary port in radio

Best Truck Ever!
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma V6 4dr Access Cab 4WD SB (4.0L 6cyl 5A)
Review
This is my 4th Toyota in over 20 years - they are so well-built, that I haven't needed to shop much! This is a beautiful truck and I love how fast and powerful it is when you need the extra merging power/get up and go. I haven't had one stitch of trouble with it and not a single factory defect, either. My Prius' gas mileage is missed, but I really needed a truck, so the Tacoma was the natural choice.
Favorite Features
Build quality. Engine: excellent power w/ reasonable fuel economy. Integrated bed liner: durable and practical, saves weight and alleviates the need for aftermarket application. Bucket seats: great bolster & comfy.
Suggested Improvements
Make sure the rest of the truck buying public gets educated about the quality/value of this vehicle!

I got what I bought
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma 2dr Regular Cab 4WD SB (2.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This truck "is what it is"; an economical version of a small truck, very handy and economical around the suburbs and city driving. Principal reason for my buying this truck is that I'm sick and tired of loosing $10,000+ a year in owing a Ford or Dodge $30,000 vehicle when purchased new. I bought this truck for a little over $16K; it gets 22 to 26 mpg; it is decidedably uncomfortable; it's 2.7litter engine performance is acceptable, and one year after my purchase, I've probably lost between $3 and $4,000, based on it's current resale value. Do I wish I had a big truck with 4-wheel drive? Sure; but it's a function of whether I want the cash in my pocket, or in the dealers pocket.
Favorite Features
They aren't many, but would suggest mileage (22 to 26 mpg) is favorite feature. The old Dodge V-8 and Ford V- 6 rate below 17mpg. I have auto trans; wouldn't be without it in city driving. Toyota poly bed liner and side tie downs oftenly used. Truck, so far, is quite reliable; handles adequately.
Suggested Improvements
A driver and passenger seat that would rate at least "5" on the 0 to 10 scale. Lack of seat comfort is the worst part of owning this truck. The ride is not so good. Also bought a Toyota Highlander at same time as this truck; it's a pleasure to drive the Highlander after riding in the Tacoma.

Great Truck
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner V6 4dr Double Cab SB (4.0L 6cyl 5A)
Review
Bought the Black pearl TRD sport version with tow package and graphite leather installed by dealer. Found a new 6 disc tacoma stereo on ebay and had installed (under $130 total), replaced my single disc. Installed a K&N cold air induction system and would highly recomend one. Bought the window vent visors that install inside of the window track and have had no problems (looks better than glued on the cab). Westen step bars and UWS tool box perform and look fine. Has been a great truck so far. My last truck was a 1996 Toyota T-100 for ten years and it was a fine truck as well.
Favorite Features
Lots of power with very good fuel economy. Hood scoop looks tuff from the driver seat. Leather looks and fells great, should be an option but you can still get it.
Suggested Improvements
Larger fuel tank, back-up sensors or camera, more custom assesories from toyota.

Love that Tacoma!
Vehicle
2006 Toyota Tacoma V6 4dr Access Cab 4WD SB (4.0L 6cyl 5A)
Review
The car is very well built, fun to drive and easy to maintain. I like the bed material (carbon fiber?) that is stronger than steel, but rust proof. I like the oil filter mounted on top of the engine, which is easy to change. It is so easy, I am changing my own oil for the first time in my life. My MPG is over 20MPG, reaching 24 on some highway trips, but I do drive with minimal gas consumption in mind. I like the rear seat fold-downs for carrying capacity. The interior is car-like, not truck-like. The ride is a bit stiff, but it is a truck! You need a bed cover, a bed pad so stuff doesn't slide, and a ramp, and you are set to go! No problems after 9K miles. So far, so good!
Favorite Features
Car-like interior engineering, oil filter on top bed, carbon fiber - don't need a liner. Movable tie downs on truck bed. Engineering - great MPG.
Suggested Improvements
Exterior is a bit plain. Considering pin striping.
