My father, in WV near the OH border, has a 2001 Tacoma with a new frame that was installed earlier this year; he did not get a new suspension with the deal nor was he offered one. Toyota Corp told me the deadline was March of 2011 and yet I am reading on here it is December 31, 2011. Toyota sure is misleading. I returned a 2002 Tacoma that I bought ... Read More
I have a 2006 Tacoma Prerunner 4dr TRD Off Road. Mine has vibrated since new. I notice it on the test drive, my dealer assured me that is was flat spots on the tires, and that it would correct itself by the time I got home. Well, it didn't. Initially I was really pissed and kept taking it back to the dealer to get it corrected. They balanced the tires. They ... Read More

My 2006 was in Bell Road Toyota in Phoenix Arizona working on my shimmy for over 9 weeks. They have given up on it. I got fed up and traded it in on a 2010 Ford F150 Raptor. I took it into the dealer and the Toyota extended warranty refused to fix it because it was lifted. (it was ... Read More
Kind of amazing, isn't it. Going to Toyota costs $800 or more to replace that thing. Seems that nearly all of them fail and it should be a TSB repair, not something that civilians are talking about here. Glad it worked for you.

Why did Toyota use the SAE ratings for 2006 Nissan didnt neither did Honda. Why It brought Tacoma horsepower and torque ratings down. Last year: 245 horsepower 282 pound feet torque. This year: 236 horsepower 266 pound feet torque.
Thanks Ron, I did go to a hitch place and they gave me a 4 wire harness to hook up to the back lights, and then a two wire harness for power and the brake. The trailer uses a 7 pin connector without using the middle pin. The brake wire connection that was suggested by the hitch place was a splice into the wire which comes from the switch located just ... Read More
Toyota Tacoma 2006 Access Cab and 2WD 2.7 4 cyl. Looks and drives great and managed a great out the door price on it( 19,870 - that includes tax, title, license). I note the body does appear elevated with noticable large wheel well gap between body and standard size tires. Can you experts out there post links to sites that would definitely have "street" fender flares. Just need the black accents ... Read More
I don't think the quality has changed for the worse in the last 40 years. What has changed is that we have an internet where we can go see someone that has a possible problem with their vehicle, and pretty soon everyone that has second thoughts about spending 20K+ on a vehicle also has that problem. It used to be that if you wanted to know about a vehicle, you would ... Read More
Thanks for the info on the exhaust noise. I have a 2006 with engine tap (another posting said Toyo is coming out with fix for fuel bracket??) and it is also bottoming out on the rear (leaf springs crashing hard on the axle when going over a dip in a road) usually more noticable with 2 or more persons. Does not need any additional weight in the truck. Gives you a ... Read More
I have bought four Toyotas in the last 13 years. I haven't negotiated back and forth on any of them. I went to dealers that were willing to offer a reasonable price at the first request. I get the price for the new vehicle established before discussing trade or financing. I keep those issues separate throughout the deal. I maintain the right to sell my trade myself and finance anywhere I ... Read More

I have a 2006 Tacoma, 4 door, 4wd, V6, auto. ... It has 5700 miles on it and is at the dealer for the 3rd time for the same tap in the motor as described in previous messages ... under acceleration, worse at 1200-1500 rpm, or when under load ... they first told me nothing was wrong (at 500 miles) and to bring it back if it got worse. It got ... Read More
Mine is a 2006 4cyl with a terrible exhaust noise. I've been told by the Toyota executive office that the fuel line bracket is causing the noise and newly redesinged one will be available shortly.
Went to the dealer again today as my "exhaust noise" has significantly increased over the last month. The normal exhaust noise is no longer considered normal as the dealership has now informed me that Toyota has posted a bulliten and they will replace the manifolds to fix the problem. Anyone experiencing the same "normal exhaust noise" check with your dealer asap. From what understand, there are alot of us out there. ... Read More
Is this the same thingie: soundman34, "Toyota Tacoma 2005+" #6853, 8 Apr 2006 5:33 am I have a friend that is a Toyota/Lexus certified mechanic. He actually works more on the Lexus side but a lot of the platforms and applications are the same. I have been having this clunk in the driveline since last summer or at about the 5000 mile mark. Last year my dealer gave me the "it's ... Read More
Frisina, you dont have a center differential (CD), you have a transfer case, which operates effectively like a permanently locked CD. Check out this very good summary. cliffy1, "Toyota 4WD systems explained" #4, 16 May 2001 4:00 pm You may want to check out the first 5 posts to this thread (authored by cliffy) to get a good understanding of the pros and cons of your (and my) tacoma 4wd system. ... According to Consumer Reports, Annual Auto Issue, "Upfront Advice" Page 9, April 2006 is their article titled 'Don't buy premium fuel'. Here's a recap of that article. "Don't buy premium fuel unless you have to---if your owner's manual calls for it or if your car knocks or pings on regular gas. Otherwise, use regular. Our tests have shown that any performance advantages with premium aren't noticeable for normal driving. In most ... Read More
If you haven't heard, there's a TSB to fix the engine tick. I've already been to the dealership and handed them this TSB. They didn't put up a fight about it. The new parts are on their way, and will be installed soon. If you're just now finding out about this TSB, you might have to wait a while for the parts. They will probably be on backorder soon, from all ... Read More
On take off, my 2006 Tacoma makes a clanking noise. However, it occurs only periodically. Is this because the splined slip yoke assembly sticks only at certain points? And does anyone know what causes a rocking effect after a hard brake? The dealer has been less than helpful. I am dissappointed with Toyota this time around.
When I went looking, Honda had a total of three configs to choose from. I don't recall seeing a 4 cyl option, 2 wheel drive or 6 speed manual option. All they had was over priced basic, overpriced mid level, and fully decked out jacked up priced car with a bed. -------------------------- Sheesh, do I have to repeat myself again. 1. Honda is on it's first year of it's truck production, ... Read More
