Either way why would you get rid of it? If it passes you don't have a rust issue, if it fails, you get a new frame? Sounds like a win-win proposition to me. The best bit of advice I could give to you is make sure the dealer is well qualified to do a frame replacement if your truck should need it. All dealerships have sent two techs. to school to ... No, you do not need to call Toyota. All you do is go to your nearest or most proficient Toyota dealer and they will bring your truck up there computer immediately by using your vin number. This will enable them to tell you on the spot if the rust inspection or rust proofing was completed by the previous owner. If not, they will schedule the inspection for you at that time. ... For those of you with 2001-2004 Tacomas, you are not likely to have your truck purchased because the frames for that generation of truck are still in production - that is why Toyota is replacing the frame. The 1995-2000 frames are not in production, thus those trucks are being purchased by Toyota and subsequently destroyed. kcram - Pickups/Wagons Host

The shifting / synchro difficulty from first to second was "just not there" according to the dealer when I took my 2003 Tacoma in for this recurring problem.(See #747)The slap in the driveline is "normal", but I don't see how that much play can do anything but prematurely wear or ruin universal joints. The dash vibration / rattle that I actually demo'd in front of the service writer at the dealer ... Read More
I have a 2003 Tacoma 2wd extended cab. It handles great, and the engine is the best 4 cylinder around, if you can swallow the poor fuel efficiency. But the seat... I have 2003 Tacoma V6 4WD Xcab and my last tank of fuel provided 21 mpg. As I get more miles on the truck the mileage has improved. I have a 2003 Tacoma with no paint problems. Also I know that the durability of paint on Toyota vehicles has been very good in the past. Not sure how good the current paint is, but I don't have any problems yet.
Dear scOrpio, emruzek, floydson, bugnut23, whatnow2, mtngal, 004runner and tomk14, I have read ( with increasing interest ) your posts as I will go to Toyota tomorrow with my 1st to 2nd shifting problem that has so correctly been described here as "notchy" or difficult shifting.Mine actually grinds a little in a "quick shift". I own a 2003 Tacoma xtra cab w/ the 4cyl. It has been lovingly broken in and ... Read More
Don't get too ahead of yourself, it had nothing to do with you. Btw, what are you doing checking the Tacoma board now? Sales: If they are offering 0%, good for them. The big 3 have been doing this for 2 years now, and are getting hurt by it. Who knows why Toyota is jumping on that bandwagon, but Tundra and 4Runner has had 0% for a while now. 4Runner I ... "Reliable, powerful, cheap" Choose two. This seems to be the best way to pick your truck. Ranger is cheap and powerful, Tacoma is reliable and powerful, Nissan is cheap and reliable, S10 is cheap. Here's my opinions on this: Ranger: If you want a cheap truck, you might as well buy this one. Yeah, it's been a bestseller for 18 years, and yes, it may have the strongest naturally aspirated V6 ... Any analyst will remember that a larger proportionate number of vehicles in the market will lead to more reports of complaints. The Ranger has been a sales leader for over 18 years. People are also more likely to voice a complaint than a praise. That is seen in the recent dialog here. You should read through any forums dedicated to any vehicle you plan on purchasing, but every account found should ... Read More

Took delivery of a 2003 Tacoma SR5 Xtra Cab October 25, 2002 with exterior paint color metallic Imperial Jade Mica. The bottom of both door panels/door frames have a light "orange peel" texture. I have a deposit on a 2003 Tacoma. I've been researching the Tacoma and it's competitors the hard way. I purchased a Nissan Frontier in 1998 because I saved money compared to Tacoma. It was an overweight underpowered pig lacking the quality and refinement of a Toyota but it was probably better than a Ranger, S10 or Dakota. Maybe not. I then purchased a 2002 S10 Crew Cab because it had ... Read More
I have a 1986 Toyota truck. The thing is the best piece of machinery I have ever purchased. However, I was thinking about buying a new 2003 Tacoma. What I want to know is Toyota still making quality trucks? Is the Tacoma worth the price? Should I consider something else? I'm a female and am a little behind in what's out there now. Thanks.
