Toyota Tacoma 2004 and Earlier Frame Problem

Just got the news, my 2002 Tacoma's frame is junk.

It looks like there isn't an option but to except the replacement. I would like to really fight this. Toyota and "Kevin" refuse to acknowledge the loss in resale value with the replacement. Their position is that the vehicle is worth more with the replacement than without the frame rot issue, because the older vehicle will now have a new frame. Would anyone buy, ... Read More...

I'm not sure how you can be happy about how toyota took care of this problem; you didn't have a problem. My 2002 Tacoma had 130k miles on it and the frame was a mess. They replaced the frame, but left a lot of parts on the vehicle that are completely caked in rust. Everything on the vehicle will corrode much more quickly due to the frame issue. Hi, if you go to message #736 it will give some helpful info. Toyota trucks from 2001 to 2004 are covered in this ("recall"??) customer support program. This particular posting refers to Canadian Toyota owners but the program started in the US. I am positive your 2002 will be included. You will have to have it inspected by a particular date. I took my 2002 tacoma in for an oil change and a problem with my "check engine light". The date was November 11, 2008. The dealership performed the oil change, while on the lift, I was informed about the massive rust. as I posted eariler on this board, I am the owner of a 2002 tacoma. My truck is inexcellent condition, with only 65, 000 miles. I was told by dealer in nov, I qualified for buy back, then was told I was only getting a new frame, after ALOT of complaints, letter writing, etc, I am now back in the buy back program 1.5 times kelly blue book value. DO NOT give up....I am the owner of a 2002 tacoma. On november 11, 2008, I took my truck in for an oil change and a problem with my check engine light being on. I was told immediately by the dealership, that I had rust/corrosion. HOBP, You're zeroing in the biggest issue with this frame replacement - "the zero $ repair bill". Now do you really believe that they aren't going to break things and try to backcharge you, as what broke wasn't part of the original frame kit? You were right to hold off on the body shop work. If it's that bad they will cover it, if it's not covered now it will be. the "frame being changed in 01" sounds kind of fishy. so if it was, it shows the old one was bad and Toyota should replace it too. I am in agreement with the others who have posted. I own a 2002 with a rusted frame. When I spoke with Toyota Corporate about it they advised that Toyota will only replace the frames and not buyback any of the 2001-04 trucks.
