This is my second Tacoma. My first was
a 99, 4 cyl, 4WD, Xcab. It was totaled
in an accident. Ended up rolling it at
55mph and walked away w/out a scratch.
The truck’s design and construction
saved my life! Bought a new 01, V6,
4WD, Xcad. Don’t have one complain
about either. It’s great in the mud
and snow with the right set of tires.
I have accumulated 80K+ miles with both
trucks and never had a problem with
either one. Just have regular
maintenance done. Can’t even complain
about a rattle or squeak. I would put
my money down another one without
thinking about it.
Great style, solid construction,
reliability, a good balance of off and
on road ability, great engines to
choose from, push button 4WD on the go,
and an interior that wants you to come
in and play.
Move the clock so the steering wheel
does block it's view. Use heavier gage
steel for the tailgate to resist
Still a great truck! Performance,
reliability, and looks are awesome.
Only complaints are annoying dashboard
rattles and cheap plastic interior. My
small dogs (and I) scratch the
vinyl/plastic in the interior. My
wife's Blazer's interior is more
resilient! Also ,as others have
stated, clock is in stupid place. It's
great in the snow, and handles like a
small car. Still the best compact
truck out there! Definitely worth the
Engine performance, handling, and looks.
Overall interior quality - seats,
dashboard rattles, and clock.
Had this truck for four months
now, and absolutely love it. It's
not perfect, but it's definitely a
quality vehicle. Ride is a little
bouncy, especially on concrete
interstates (asphalt is
smooth as glass). Couldn't afford the
V6, but the 4 cyl. does fine. I don't
do a lot of heavy-duty hauling or
towing, so the HP is more than
adequate. Getting 21 mpg avg and
as much as 25 mpg on the open road.
It's a great hill climber, creek
splasher and rock rider and I've spent
many fun hours off-road, exploring
places I've never been before. But
clean it up and shine it up and, man,
it takes to city streets like a Jaguar
to the jungle. And chicks love it!
Fit and finish are excellent; body
design is classy and sexy; sound system
is superb; love the height of the
vehicle. It sits up nice and high on
its 16" wheels; like the automatic
shutoff for the headlights when you
exit the vehicle.
Seat belts tend to be too tight; seat
cloth (velour?) ages quickly and
poorly; clock placement is poor;
windshield needs more height; fender
flares can pull loose in carwashes, so
