    This is a pass fail test. Toyota was very fair, beyond fair if you ask me. My 99 Taco had 170k on it and I got 12k for it. It does not matter what condition it is in, only that is drives and has a clean title. You can get it re-inspected up to 15years out every year as long as they are offering the buy back program.     They wont fix it, if it fails you will get a check, if it passes they recoat frame. My 99 is now flat as a pancake and have moved onto 2000 trd 4runner with money in the bank. Miss the old truck but great deal. Rust was found on the frame under passenger door, large hole. Good luck

    Hi, I have a 1999 Tacoma with 54,000 miles in perfect condition. That is until my mechanic found extensive rust. Toyota has my truck, they gave me a loaner. Dealer says they will either replace the frame or buy back. It may take two weeks to get an answer. From reading other posts, it seams the buy back is more likely. That's fine with me.     Anyone with a 2001-2004 who got the 150% KBB would have been early in the program. Buy-back is now available only to 1995.5-2000 Tacomas. 2001-2004 Tacomas get the frames replaced. They have replacement frames for them. Not so with the 1995.5-2000 Tacomas. Toyota is doing the right thing with the no cost frame replacement. Lots of new parts.

    For those of you with 2001-2004 Tacomas, you are not likely to have your truck purchased because the frames for that generation of truck are still in production - that is why Toyota is replacing the frame.     I would say go to the link I posted for the Toyota Letter. And get the phone number and call Toyota. You should not be driving a truck that failed inspection. There is also a list of the vin numbers affected from 1995-2000 in that PDF file. Just because you have a 2001 doesn't mean it wasn't manufactured in 2000. Call Toyota, the number is in the dealer letter.

    I just had my '95 Tacoma inspected at the Toyota Dealer and they didn't find any problems. They think the rust problems are more prevalent in the upper east states where there is more salt used on the streets. I have 2 more years left on the "rust warranty" so I will have my truck looked at again before that expires.
