Same exact process I went fhrough. Warranty should be from 15 years from initial vehicle purchase date when new. Toyota can obviously look that up. Keep escalating until you get it resolved. I also had the 2000 Tacoma and they gave me almost $15k for it. Good luck.
Hi, I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with 106K miles that usually begins to shake and vibrate when it(the engine) is cold, usually in the mornings, and when it is not moving. I have no idea of what might be wrong with it or what causes it to shake. I would really appreciate it if y'all can tell what might be causing this.
I also have a 2001 Tacoma dbl. cab with a rusty frame and went to my local dealer and was told that they would not help....So i called Mark at Brianbemus.com and he took my vin # and said he wound look in to the matter. He called back and said that that vin# did come back as a 2001 model but it said that the truck was built in 2000 ... Read More
I'm sorry, my mistake. After re-reading the article by the New York Times, the $100 million was just for the buybacks of the 1995 to 2000 Tacomas. We both know many thousands more built after 2000 had frame replacements at approx. $11,000 a pop, so obviously much more than $100 million was spent on the program. This proves even further the commitment Toyota had to resolving the rust issue.
My 2005 Tacoma with 75,000 miles has the same problem with the frame rusting. Internet searches show this to be an all too common problem. A post in the tundrasolutions.com forums gave the following info: Not to rehash an old thread but I have an 05 DC Tacoma and have had a rust problem since about 07-08. I have call Toyota twice and this time actually got some valuable information. In ... Read More
You should be good with the '99 Tacoma being bought back. They are supposedly honoring the warranty extension on trucks that fall under 15 years from their original sale date, so 2012-1999 = 13 years. Toyota also told me that as long as the truck is currently registered and you have the title in your name, there is no problem with how long (or how short) you have owned the truck ... Read More
Tacomas from 2001 to 2004 have been falling under a different program whereby Toyota is inspecting the frame, and then either replacing the frame itself if it's deemed as a fail, or spraying some rust-proofing stuff on it if it passes inspection. It was the 1995-2000 Tacoma models that were simply being bought back, without the option to replace the frame. So Toyota may offer to replace your frame. It could ... Read More

Just a couple of corrections: Actually all 2000 to 2004 Tacomas used the same frames but depending on the location of purchase of the Tacoma in question, you might not have been notified. I returned the truck to the dealer on Wednesday after the failed inspection. I did a huge pile of research and here's what I found; granted there are some errors in my findings but I returned my truck and got a full refund. 95-2000 frames were on the recall list with a deadline for inspection being March 2011. Toyota later expanded the recall to 2001-2004 frames built at specific factories. My ... Read More

I'm in California and I would have to think that most of the trucks around here are ok, but that's why I'm asking.
HELP!! Have 2000 Tacoma--96,000 kms. Purchased in S. Ontario in 2003. Paid in full at purchase time. Received letter about undercoating defect. Holding off on dealership inspection as I am indecisive about how to handle this situation. New experience. Should local mechanic check it out first?? Called dealership. Said 10 Tacomas came in. Four pulled off road. Not prepared to possibly have to change vehicles at this time. LOVE our truck ... Read More
Nice to see that I wasn't the only one finding this out. Some dealers did inflate the price. They lost me as a customer after I had 2 tacomas in the last 10 years. I bought a nissan frontier and so far so good. I don't blame toyota in calif., they have stepped up and were very good to me. The dealers suck!!!!
first of all if you are seriously considering buying another toyota ASK what incentives they will give you in addition to your buy back check. you never know what they will come back with. second regardless of whether you buy another toy or not; if the offer isn't what you thought it was going to be (basic math) by looking up what you think the kbb is and taking 150, tell ... I have a 1997 tacoma which i have had frame rot repairs done twice prior to 3-08. This was pretty costly, about $1,700 , and was needed to pass NH state inspection. Just wondering if anyone else has had frame rot repair bills and was reimbursed for them by toyota?
me and my husband sent our last payment in on november of 07 for our 2000 tacoma acess cab, extended bed,tow package,4x4 with 101k miles.(took so long because it started as a lease, and then bought it.BIGGEST MISTAKE we made, ended up paying a whole lot more)anyway we didnt know anything about the rust issue until are local news reported about it.WE NEVER RECIEVED ANY LETTER. so we took the truck to local dealer ... Offer letter signed and faxed back yesterday for $15,900+ to buy back our 2000 Tacoma xtra cab, off road package. Truck was inspected w/130k+ miles on it. We should have the check in 7 to 10 days. They moved pretty quickly, it was only 3 business days between the time we had the truck inspected and the offer letter arrived (they called us on day 2 and left a voicemail message ... Read More
I've followed the complaints of frame rust since the beginning. It took a while before Toyota announced the recall on the 95-2000 models. If your 01 is still safe enough to drive, my suggestion is to hold off for a bit while Toyota decides what to do with the 01+ Tacomas. If the extent of the problem is as wide as it is with the 95-2000 models are, they may extend ... Read More
Thanks big05 for the documents. We just had our 2000 Tacoma inspected on Friday and was told by the dealership that it may take about 6 to 8 weeks before a Toyota rep will be in contact with us. They did say it could be sooner as the case loads have calmed down a bit. I guess its now just a waiting game. They did tell us that we qualify for ... Read More
I have a 2001 tacoma x-tra cab which failed frame inspection the rep told me I would probably get 100% of kbb and not 150% like the 95 to 2000s I feel this is not fair ! just because it's a year older it has the exact same problem what do I do when they only offer me 11,000 instead of 16,000 still owe 7000.00 on truck??
I have the dealer documents that Toyota Corp provided to dealers about this program. I cannot post them to this site, but if you need them email me at firstname.lastname@example.org , I have been through the whole process and now am driving a 2008 Tacoma Acces Cab! But it was hard to locate a base model 4x4 so be prepared. With the additional $2000 I got in rebates, I couldn't pass ... Read More
I have a 2000 Taco x cab 4 x4. My local dealer took my Taco in but told me they did not know about the recall. After calling Toyota corp. they called me back and said my truck vin was not part of the recall. Does this sound right?
Completed my by-back of my 2000 Tacoma today. Took three weeks start to finish. Very efficient - got $15000 plus $1000 because i ordered a new Tacoma. Should have it next week. Pretty impressed with the way Toyota handled this.
I did. The dealer failed my truck on Friday, April 27 and I got a call the following Monday from the company that handles the buyback. They emailed the acceptance letter to me and I signed and faxed it back to them. Got another call from the the following Monday, May 5 and I brought the truck to them the following day, signed some more papers, handed them the keys and ... Read More
I have a 2000 Tacoma with some heavy rust on the frame. I had my truck inspected last week at a local service shop and the mechanic told me about the frame problems and that Toyota may buy it back. I don't really want to lose my truck, but I don't want it falling apart driving down the road. My 2000 only has $61k miles on it. I have an appointment ... Read More
My 2000 Toyota Tacoma is running rough on idle. The engine light is on and I get code 300 random/multiple misfire, and 302, number 2 cylinder misfire. I replaced the spark plugs, and swaped the electronic coils in between the spark plugs, but still get the same codes. Can anyone help please?
I just had my '95 Tacoma inspected at the Toyota Dealer and they didn't find any problems. They think the rust problems are more prevalent in the upper east states where there is more salt used on the streets. I have 2 more years left on the "rust warranty" so I will have my truck looked at again before that expires.
