You should take note that 1995-2000 Tacomas have an acknowledged frame-rust problem. Trucks in this group are subject to annual inspection by a dealer. Toyota dealership & Toyota Corp. will not give me a letter or documents stating that the truck is safe. Waiting for corp. to call me back I have thier loner & told them I will not return it until this is resolved, corp. is being very difficult, said they would charge me rental & storage! after my truck was taken back by their dealership & deemed unsafe,corp stepped ... If it were me I would complain long and loud to Toyota USA about this. A dealer stated it was unsafe to drive - said it was rusted through - put a salvage not for sale sticker on it - then gave you a loaner to boot. Do you have any documents from that visit? have a 1995 Toyota Tacoma p/u brought it in a week ago for the recall and was told by the service dept that it was unsafe to drive, thay put a salvage not for sale sticker on it & said it was rusted through gave me a loner & said a middle co would be in touch to buy it back. Bru5: It sounds like your Tacoma is covered by the 15 year extended rust warranty program Toyota instituted in Fall, 2008. Beginning March, 2008, Tacoma owners were notified to have thier 1995-2000 Tacomas inspected for frame rust. Toyota repaired or bought back about 10% of the 1995-2000 Tacomas having more frame rust than Toyota considered to be "acceptable". ... Read More...

I am sorry if you have already ansswered a question like this. I have a 1995 toyota tacoma 4x4, with a very rusted frame. I can only see this by kneeling down and looking in by the tires. I am unable to lay down on a creeper (disabled) and get under the truck to see how bad the frame is. It is a great truck that I have owned for seven years. Is there anything I can do about this ... I have changed fuel pump, fuel filter, wires, distr. cap, rotar button, fuel regulator still problem exists. Cranks great when engine is cold, but once it gets hot and you turn engine off and let sit for 5-10 minutes it is a hard to start. It takes a long time to turn if over. EXACTLY!!!! thats what I have been saying all along. the prob actually started in 95 according to toyota so highmiler289, your truck may have had a frame prior to the actual problem.. toyota did not handle it well and it is completely a liability issue they are trying to cover and pawning it off to look as if they did it out of concern. I'm not sure how you can be happy about how toyota took care of this problem; you didn't have a problem. My 2002 Tacoma had 130k miles on it and the frame was a mess. They replaced the frame, but left a lot of parts on the vehicle that are completely caked in rust. Everything on the vehicle will corrode much more quickly due to the frame issue.
