2011 Toyota Sienna Minivan XLE 7-Passenger 4dr Minivan AWD (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

Review

We purchased the Sienna XLE a few weeks ago. We spent good money on a high end vehicle expecting great quality, unfortunately we've been very disappointed. All the back seats are squeaking and rattling. It started with the 3rd row seat, then the pilot chair seats. We brought it into the dealership to have it looked and they said Toyota was aware of the issues on some of the Siennas and that there was no fix. They said they are working a redesign! Why did they let this go out the door. Furthermore, when we asked the dealership to help us out and resolve the issue, they said it's not their problem (there exact words). I will never buy a Toyota again!!

Best Features

AWD

Worst Features

Fix the squeaky seats. I feel like i'm driving in a rusty 1990 ford pickup truck. Toyota needs to improve their customer relations. Dealerships should not be telling customers that have known issues that Toyota has admitted to that it's not there problem.

2011 Toyota Sienna Minivan SE 8-Passenger 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

Review

we choose the Sienna based on build quality (I work for a Toyota supplier). The reliability seems to be there, but Toyota went cheap on a couple of things. The interior plastics belong on a lowly Kia, they are hard to the touch and I'm guessing will be prone to sqeaking in due time. The sliding doors stick frequently. The van is fun to drive, for a van, the steering is precise and the handling on the SE is probably the most fun of all minivans. The looks are pretty aggressive and hats off to Toyota for putting 19" rims on it, giving the van a sporty stance. Swagger wagon marketing is valid on the SE.

Best Features

The steering is nicely weighted, with firm feel, unique for a Toyota. As mentioned the wheel/tire package with suspension upgrades on the SE may be a bit over the top for some, but for those who appreciate some semblance of handling and looks, they are appropriate. The clear LED taillights remind me of a Lexus RX. The headlights/driving lights are some of the brighest out there. The removable 8th seat (which stores in a small compartment in the rear) is extremely handy for hauling extra kids when needed.

Worst Features

The dashboard plastic needs better material. They must be using the same hard grade of plastic as in the Yaris. C'mon this is a $35k vehicle! Engine noise while somewhat subdued, the engine note itself is course. Stepping on the throttle, the engine sounds strained. Honda definitely has Toyota beat on this. The engine feels smooth, but the sound doesn't match. I wish Toyota would offer the factory DVD system on the SE. We let the dealer install a non OEM unit and it has been replaced twice. The wireless antenna created interference and Toyota didn't have a suitable hard wire antenna replacement. Shouldn't have to wait on parts to fix new car issues.

2011 Toyota Sienna Minivan XLE 8-Passenger 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

Review

The driver's side door on our new Sienna does not work. We have taken it to the dealer three times. The dealer and the national Toyota repair people do not know how to fix this. Toyota will not provide a loaner. When we called to request arbitration paperwork, we were told it would take 10-14 business days. I strongly believe this is an unethical business practice. We will continue to seek damages under state law and will never buy a Toyota again.

Best Features

Tires with no traction in the snow. Power rear door that does not work and that Toyota can't fix. Mandatory 24 hour delay in responses from customer service. Attempt by Toyota to delay arbitration.

Worst Features

Learn to fix your cars before you sell them. I did not believe the stories about poor Toyota quality, now I do. I also believe that Toyota is not doing it's best to address the quality issues.

Review

Pay very special attention to the plastic coated steel wire that is part of power sliding door mechanism. You can find this wire in the groove/track under the rear windows. The plastic coating of this wire on my van dried up and cracked, exposing the steel wire. When this happens, the door will be hard to open. When the steel is completely exposed, eventually the cable can snap. It happened to me and my doors (yes, both sliding doors) are only in manual mode now. I was told that it would cost $2000/door to fix. The front doors have welding issues. When they are opened and closed, they make a LOUD "snapping" noise. This model came with runflat tires. They are expensive to replace.

Best Features

Power Sliding Side Doors... When they were working...

Worst Features

Either rework the power sliding door mechanism so that no coated steel wires are used or warranty the power door mechanism (includes everything that has anything to do with the opening and closing of the side doors) for life. Ditch runflat tires!!!!

Review

Bought this van when our 2nd child was on her way last June. Immediately loved the practicality and versatility of the interior. It just makes life easy with kiddos in car seats. Also have used it to haul various cargo and people and wondered what we did without it. It drives well for a van with a smooth ride although the steering and brake feel are a little light. The dash plastic is a tad on the cheesy side but the switchgear has a quality feel. Unfortunately so far we have had a window leak, a recall notice for the brake pedal bracket, and now have a stability control problem that has illuminated 4 warning lights and the central info screen. What the heck has happened to Toyota Quality?

Best Features

The room, the versatility, the ease of access. It's very maneuverable for a vehicle it's size. It also gets very good mileage: up to 19 MPG in town!

Worst Features

Improved quality both in interior materials and build quality. Also, the steering, brake, and throttle calibrations could be improved. We might be looking at an Odyssey now with as many problems as we've experienced so far.
