I don't think it's fair to infer that the price jump from the XLE to the Limited is based entirely on the upgrade to leather/alternative (Softex) seats. The increase in price is also due to the remote lift gate option, heated seats, 8-way power-adjustable seats with memory function... just to name a few options that are standard on the Limited. I applaud Toyota for using a leather alternative vs. real leather. If you were to ask most people what they think of it (with no prior knowledge that it's a leather alternative), I would be willing to bet that 95% of them wouldn't have a clue that it isn't "real" leather. The idea that stripping an animal of it's skin so you can sit on it, as opposed to a fabric/material that doesn't cause any harm to living creatures, as being superior and the "imitation" being inferior is a product of societal conditioning that, somehow, leather equals quality. I'm hopeful that some day in the future, thanks to companies like Toyota, this way of thinking becomes outdated and frowned upon. In addition to being friendly towards animals, Softex also stays cooler when exposed to sunlight during the summer.Report it
