Article Comments - 2009 VW Tiguan vs. 2008 Honda CR-V vs. 2008 Toyota RAV4
We get it already fuel prices suck. And while we pity the poor sod who bought a new full-size SUV a few years ago and is now stuck with a fuel bill that has doubled and a vehicle whose residual value makes manure futures look appealing, everyone wants solutions. Sympathy won't heal a hemorrhaging wallet. 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan vs. 2008 Honda CR-V vs. 2008 Toyota ... Read More...

Re: 4x4 Limited in CT [cartalk10]
My dealer wouldnt budge below $29,544 and dropped in on move to $28,200 once I sent him a link to Fitgerald Motors showing the same car for $27,390. You have to get all your info and let him know that you are a informed buyer. I have 5 guys offering me that car way below $29000 . I do not know where you are but do some research using Edmunds site http://www.edmunds.com/new/2008/toyota/rav4/100920113/prices.html ... Read More...
don't get a RAV4 right now
[This post applies to 2008s (not 2009s).] I know this may be an unpopular post but.... I don't think people should be getting RAV4s right now, especially 6cyl 4WDs. I really researched small vs. mid size 6cyl AWD/4WD SUVs, and while I think RAV4s may have the best offerings for the small SUV, especially the great gas mileage, Toyota is just charging too much -- only ... Re: Cashback and Financing [mazda626atx]
Sure Mazda, here it is. If this is not what you are looking for, let me know. Just add all your options. Mudguards will not be on there. Like I stated earlier..don't pay more than $50.00 for those. http://www.edmunds.com/new/2008/toyota/rav4/100920113/prices.html The invoice price is not going to change no matter how long the dealer has the car. Re: tie downs for ocean kayak? [steve_]
thanks for the pointer. I'd be happy to make those kinds of mods to my trusty 1990 Toyota wagon but it doesn't feel so great to buy a beautiful new car and start immediately hacking it. I've since realized a few things: 1) the 2008 car has two plastic pop-off things that have bolt holes under them. Apparently those had eye-bolts which were used as tie downs when the ... Read More...

Re: RAV4 rebate in North East ? [roland67]
There was a $500 rebate during the month of July but you are correct, it appears to have been eliminated for August. I'm hoping Toyota reintroduces a northeast rebate on 2008 models after this this National Sales Event promotion ends on 9/2. Per the press release, the 2009 models should be on the dealer lots by mid-Spetember. This hopefully will trigger new rebates. ... Read More...
rav4 rebate increase? (vs. Nissan Xterra)
wondering if anyone has any insight on whether toyota may increase the $1000 rebate on the 2008 RAV4s? right now the 2008 RAV4s are selling at "invoice" plus a $1000 rebate. this is a very good price, but comparably-equipped (6-cyl) 2008 Nissan Xterras seem like a slightly better value. the Xterras are selling at ~$1000 below "invoice" plus a $3000 rebate -- effectively ... Re: Toyota Rav4 Base Model 4x4 Lease [elizabeth15]
It doesn't look like there are any lease specials going on in the Denver area at this time, only the $500 cash back you mentioned. Looks like there are a lot of Toyota dealerships in the Denver area. I'd check them all and see who's willing to go BELOW invoice (yes, it can be done and they're still making a profit). Mountain States Toyota for instance has 58 2008 RAV4s. ... Read More...
Re: 2008 RAV4 LTD 4x4 3.5L V6 with ~2k miles [watsac]
I don't know what the Honda ILP is, and I've never heard of it at Toyota. What I do know is that your LTD is making a lot of short trips; you have the larger, thirstier engine, with AWD, and you haven't come near to breaking it in - I've seen a dramatic improvement in engine smoothness and MPG after 6,000 to 8,000 miles. ['07 I4 AWD Base] All of that said, I find the most important ... Read More...
2008 RAV4 LTD 4x4 3.5L V6 with ~2k miles
Bought a 2008 RAV4 LTD 4x4 3.5L V6 in March, 2008. Just now (August) getting about 2000 miles on it. It is used primarily by my wife around town although we have taken a couple of long highway trips. For all of the CITY style driving miles (1,039), I am averaging 16.8 MPG. For all of the HIGHWAY style driving miles (897), I am averaging 25.3 MPG. This makes for a disappointing ... Read More...
