Our 2008 Rav4 only had 32,000 miles on it when it started using lots of oil at 1000 miles after oil change. Oil light never came on even though it was almost dry. Just 6 months out of warranty as well. Never used oil before. Toyota website states a problem with the piston, but of course won't admit liability. Used to love toyotas. Not anymore.
Not a happy camper today at all. Went into the dealership b/c oil light flashing when I make a hard stop. Now, even though I have less than 59000 miles on my Rav4, bought it new in 2008, and have religiously serviced my car at the dealership every 5,000 miles - I am told that I have to have the engine rebuilt! Oh yes, and I am 6 months past the ... Read More

Hey all We are having similar problems with our Rav4, Limited Edition, 2011. About 3 months ago, our son left a light on overnight. No surprise, the car wouldn't start. My story (2007 Rav4) starts out the same as everyone else's - oil light comes on at around 60K miles, need to add oil frequently, consumption test, etc. Fortunately I had purchased this vehicle from a private seller in 2008, and he had originally purchased a premium extended warranty policy. I have a 2008 Rav4 Limited with less than 3,500 miles and it has 2 spots on the rear bumper where the paint is worn down to the primer. There is really no indication that stones hit the car and the car was primarily garaged until now. I was not offered any deal for extra paint protection and probably would have said no since I have never had paint problems with ... Read More
I have no idea how Texas and the northeast compare. As for up-coming promotions... who knows. Toyota's web site shows $1000 rebates or 0% APR on 2008 models. With such a small rebate on the 2008's, it seems unlikely they will have rebates on the 2009's until the 2010's come out. Also, your area has higher delivery charges according to buyatoyota.com ("The Delivery, Processing and Handling Fee in AL, AR, FL, ... Read More
If that's a 2008, then it must be after-market navigation, which is pretty costly. I wouldn't pay that much for a 2008. I've just bought a 2009 4WD V6 with JBL EVP and backup camera (camera is actually pretty lame) but no nav, no pinstripe, no Toyota security, no mudguards. I paid 28,000 +TTL but I am paying 3% for 36 mos.
Just picked up my new RAV4 tonight! Summary: Got a 2009 RAV4 Base 4WD 4Cyl in Pacific Blue with the QV Extra Value package (17" 5-spoke wheels with full size spare, daytime running lights, roof rack, and rear privacy glass) and CF (carpet floor mats and cargo mat). The sticker included an "Extra Value Package MSRP Discount" of $570, bringing the sticker to $23964. According to Edmunds, the invoice price is ... Read More

Hey, heyheyjude. I bought a 2008 Rav4 in September. My light came on after two weeks only to find out I had only 20 pounds of pressure in each tire. I put the right amount of air in the tires. A week after that my car started vibration. I have been back to the deal twice, called the main toyota line, just to find out no one wants to do anything ... Read More
Hi Cyclist_Chick: I hope that you really enjoy the ride and still checking this forum for awhile. I got the spreadsheet ready and came to SM dealer tonight but it did not work out. Therefore, I would like to ask you again: 1) T.M.F (Toyota Marketing Fund) ~ $770. I removed this. Did you pay this fee? 2) PIO (Pre Install Option) Holdback? How about this? 3) 2% Holdback MSRP? I ... Read More
I have a 2008 RAV4 and i have been having starter problems for the past 3 months. i bought the car in april 2008. basically, it takes several tries before it starts (once every two weeks or so)... sometimes it takes up to 30-45 before it finally starts. I took it to the dealer and basically they can't do anything about it since it starts for them without any problems. They ... Read More
It was in Scranton PA. The dealer was Toyota Scion of Scranton. Check out their web site, they had a lot of inventory. :D
The Toyota.com webpage suggests MSRP as $27000 for the RAV4/year:08/V6/2WD/3.5L/black/LIMITED/without Navi. But when I requested a quoto from Online retailers, they call for nearly $30000. Why do the local retailers call for higher price than the MSRP? And what are some effective strategy to have as much discount as possible from the local dealers? Should I get 2007 instead of 2008 for cheaper price? or Wouldn't there be big difference between ... Read More

I've narrowed down my choices to either a Subaru Forester or a V6 Toyota RAV4 -- 08 in both cases. On my 2008 RAV4 with 5000 miles on it I have recently - in last 2 months - been getting a yellowish brown oily stain on the right rear fender panel - same side as the tailpipe. I'm in the same boat. I want the limited with the same options as you only my first choice is the blizzard pearl (which is 200$ extra). Lowest quote so far is 28,676, then there is a 1000$ rebate( in PA) so final 27, 676 + tax(NYS) and tags. The rebate is a Toyota rebate so they aren't losing on that. I too am thinking they should be wanting to get ... Read More
Hi nova92. The money factor that you were quoted is right in line with Toyota Financial's buy rate for a 36 month lease of this vehicle in its New York region this month. That is a good thing. The selling price that you were quoted looks reasonable as well. It's tough to say for certain, but I suspect that it is around $500 over invoice...which is right around what I would ... Read More
