    That's funny, we call it a 2.4l. I didn't think the 2.5l came out until 2009. Anyway, you should be closer to 27 on the highway per the EPA rating. Not sure what's going on though. The other easy thing to check is the air filter. Any owners have any feedback?

    2.5L 4cyl (http://www.toyota.com/rav4/features.html?trim=4430). I tried to drive both with cruise control and without it, no difference. Engine revolutions are usually between 2000 and 3000, I try to keep it close to 2000.

    2.4L or 3.5? Either way, the highway mpg should be better. Maybe if you put it on cruise control at 65, maybe that'd help. Otherwise, check the easy stuff first, like your tire pressures. We Test the Tips

    Just bought Toyota Rav4 2004, 2WD 2.5L. I drive 90% on heighway with no traffic jam (65-75 mph, 35 miles each day), and around 10% city. It's my first 500 miles on the car. Avarage consumption is 21mpg. What might cause this huge consumption?

    You need to bite the bullet and install a new battery. If they tested it and it was "a little low", that means the battery is on its way out. The original Toyota battery has a typical life span of 3 years--if you can squeeze 4 out of it you're doing good. Spend the $75-85 on a new battery and I'm almost certain it will solve your problem.

    Thanks for the advice. The local Toyota dealer has tested it a couple of times and it checks out fine, but this last time they did say that it tested weak at times; its the original battery My husband has thought all along that it acts like its not getting fuel at start-up, so your fuel pump comment makes sense.

    i missed that part where you said you had the drain and fill done just two weeks prior. remember also that draining and filling only gets rid of approx 1/3 of the fluid in the transmission.     If the transmission is still under warranty, how does the dealer justify charging you $200? I would contact Toyota if I were you.

    I have a 2006 RAV4 and my radio doesn't always work. It seems to be related to hot weather. In the summer when it starts getting into the 90's the display panel just turns into a bunch of x's and sometimes, none of the buttons work. Have had a few other problems with this model--so won't be buying Toyota again.

    Bought '07 Cx-7 in October---2006....currently 37000 miles. No real problems since new, averaging about 20 mpg in town. Not unhappy with vehicle, would buy again. Does use premium fuel, could have less plastic in the interior.

    I have a 2006 RAV4 with a 4 cylinder engine. I have asked the "service advisor" twice at the dealership at different service intervals. Both times, after consulting someone else, I heard the statement that all Toyotas after 2004 have timing chains and not belts. I hope this helps you.

    Okay...all done. No Charge!! My Toyota Dealership (where I bought the Rav4) just changed out the steering shaft. So far, so good...no more 'twangs'. On the service invoice..it says "Customer states there is a knocking noise coming from the steering column." and farther down...after the parts list..."Steering shaft has excessive play - replaced steering shaft assembly". -K

    I noticed in Colorado my friend's Sequoia had cracks from pebble impacts as well; in Colorado they layout sand on their highways in winter which beats up cars front ends and sides.     Average over 5000 miles - 19.6 miles per gallon. Only premium gas, 50/50 highway - city driving. Soft on acceleration. Dealer says these results are O'K and there is no reason to file a complaint. This is getting close to my 2004 V8 Tahoe. What is happening with Toyota?

    A friend of mine has that acceleration lag. They found a TSB (service bulletin) for the transmission, and yes it fixed this lag. Even though the TSB was for the transmission if you read the bulletin it went on to describe the engine and emissions system.     2007 Rav4 V6 AWD Base Model. 2500 miles. Getting an average about 22.5 MPG, with driving breakdown of 75/25 hi-way/city With the 16 gallon tank, I find that the gas light goes off with about 3 gallongs to go. Located in MA.

    '07 RAV4 4wd V6 Limited with tube steps under 6,000 miles. I'm only getting 19 - 20 in city driving in LA. Best mileage was around 24 - 26 on a highway trip between LA and San Francisco.

    They still have it in the shop. I am in a loaner car until they call me later this week. Maybe this will work, but everything that I've read on the Internet points to a computer related problem that deals with the drive-by-wire technology Toyota used in the 2006-2007 Camry and RAV4 with the 4 cyl engine.     We have a 2006 RAV4 4WD I4 with 23,000 miles on it. We're visiting the in-laws this week. On our trip east we averaged 28.21 mpg on the freeway travelling at 70-75 mph. On one stretch (through Ohio) we did just over 30.1 mpg for 213 miles of the journey. (That's hand calculated over 850+ miles using the fuel shut off as "full".)     I have a 2006 Toyota Rav 4 with a 4 cyl. engine, and 4 speed automatic transmission front wheel drive only...I usually get 18 to 20 mpg in the city and 24 to 25 mpg highway driving at the speed limit or less.... long ways from the advertised fuel economy huh? what a disappointment..
