I am experincing similar problems with a 2008 model. At times the battery seems to be dead and the car won't start nor will the steering wheel turn. Its happened 4 times this month. Last Sunday I pushed the RAV4 from my garage because I thought the battery was dead and I was going to use jumper cables and my truck to recharge the battery. However, I tried to start it ... I own a 2005 Rav4 with a taller rear headrests. I test drove the 2011 Rav this summer and noticed the lower retriangle rear seatheads. I love it because it is better visibility. Does anyone know when, what year, the RAV4 went to DBW, E-throttle. That was the technique Toyota used in an attempt to fix this same problem, seemingly, with the RX330. Flawed transaxle design modifications incorporated in the early RX was migrated to other FWD vehicles within just a few years.

Interesting. First, the RX350 has far superior interior quality to that of the RAV, and is much larger. I am not sure if the AWD systems are the same. Hmm, I am at the point of possibly buying a new 2005 RAV4, at hopefully an end of year deal. Now I learn that the 2005 model is about to become extinct with the introduction of this newer, revised model that will appear soon in the show rooms. This causes me to question my judgement and perhaps to take a wait and see attitude. Frequently revised models come with many improvements ... Read More
The rebate can vary from one part of the country to another. Toyota bases the rebates on day's supply of inventory in each region on the country. Regions with a higher day's supply of inventory will have a larger rebate to help move more vehicles.
Abies, thank you SOOOOO much, you saved me 1700. This past weekend we drove from Connecticut to Mariland to Darcars dealership in Silver Spring to get a 4wd Rav4 with option package D as configured on Toyota Web site (which is basically: L package, side airbags, keyless entry, allow wheels, Roof rack, mud flaps, and some other stuff). Darcars web price was 20,907 (invoice 22407, msrp 24385). So just like that ... Read More
Hi, Jeff I sent emails to about 15 Toyota dealerships in DC metro area(Maryland, DC, and Virginia), but, I realized that other dealers could not beat the Darcars. Sometimes, there was a special deal at the end of the month. When I contacted 355 and Silver Spring Toyota by email, I received 200 coupon at the end of the month. http://toyotass.darcars.com/New-Inventory.aspx?InventoryId=1569243 (I don't like this color, it's too hot in summer. ... hey there. i'm looking for a 2005 awd Rav4, with L package, mud flaps, roof rack, automatic, not sure what color yet. I live in Louisville, KY but have some strong ties down in Orlando FL. A couple of days ago, I got a quote from 'a friend' that works at a dealership in Orlando FL. Her pricing was as follows...MSRP $23,980...will sell to me for $22,000---which is $108 over their ... College grad program is through Toyota Financial Services. You have to finance a portion of the purchase through TFS. You have to have graduated within the last 24 months or will be graduating within the next 6 months. You must have proof of current income or proof of imminent income (acceptance/hire letter from employer). You can not have any negative credit history. There can be no exceptions for ANY of these ... I don't see any ads for a RAV4 in the newspaper. They're very rare in So.Cal. There was a rebate for recent college grads, but I think the requirement is that you have to finance through Toyota. Anybody have more info on this? Is the college grad rebate from the manufacturer or dealer?
The RAV4 as a tow vehicle behind our MH. AWD, manual transmission, etc. Does anyone know how the 2005 AWD system works. The earlier ones used a viscous clutch, same as my 2001 AWD RX300, but as of 04 the RX dropped the VC in favor of brake torque apportioning, did the RAV4 do the same? The Toyota salesman said the RAV4 F/R engine torque bias is 80/20. That is in ... Read More

My Aunt has a Rav 4 and it is ok.. I went shopping for a SUV this winter after issues with my Hyundai Elentra GT in the snow, it sucked.. after 12k on the tires. Finally got around to taking my wife's 2003 RAV4 2WD back to the shop for the dash-rattle which first started to mainfest itself a little over a year ago (I was hoping it'd go away... it didn't). The sound was registered and heard by both the Service Manager and examining tech.. The TSB dash noise-rattle kit was used to fix. On the way home, noise came back worse than ever in ... Read More
You were silent about the bumpers. Hey - you're the one promoting "full disclosure", not me. I share information I think is relevant and current. The head gaskets are not - I've already explained why. So you are breaking your own rule. Wheel bearing design was changed for MY2003, and failures weren't that common anyway. Once again, Subaru covered that under warranty, without a fight. Since we're focusing on weaknesses, why ... Read More
Amen, to that. And again I say amen. I wonder if CR is dipping it's hands at Toyotas deep really realy deep pockets to recommend a Toyota Rav4. Wonder why the comparo didn't involve the CRV, is it because it will be a no contest with CRV garnering the top honors.CR, are you listening?CR / Toyota you may fool as once and shame on you, but if you can do it twice ... I was very close to buying the RAV4. I like Toyota's reliability and I loved the way the RAV4 handled on the test drive. I did feel that the cargo area was a bit short but I was all set to buy until I found out that the good ratings it was getting in the side impact crash tests were with a RAV4 that had side air bags. The one I ... Read More
