I'm wondering if anyone elses 2004 RAV4 makes a clicking noise in the switch every time the intermittent wipers cycle on? Mine just started doing it this morning and I never heard the noise before. My RAV4 has only 3100 miles on it and so far has been plagued with multiple defects. Unfortunately, I'm thinking this may be another one to add to the list. So far it has needed a ... Read More

Re: Revit [catherine9]

Try to find a new RAV4 at a dealership and it is very unlikely; Consumer Reports needs to retract the recommendation as the vehicle is very unsafe for the majority of them on the road. This is not just with the RAV4, but the case for any Toyota model where the side airbags are optional. The crash tests on the 2004 Toyota RAV4 are POOR.

Consumer Reports should retract RAV4 Recommendation
Written by: revit on Sep 26, 2004 6:47:23 AM
Please email Consumer Union (Consumer Reports) to retract their recent recommendation (Oct 2004 issue) of the 2004 Toyota RAV4. After checking the IIHS, I unfortunately learned that the Toyota fared poorly in IIHS side-impact tests, furthermore, the driver and passenger suffered significant inquiry. Even more disturbing is after visiting several Toyota dealerships with anticipation of purchasing this vehicle with side airbag protection, the option could not be found. The majority of ... My wife and I ran into the same problem as jcliffro and we certainly didn't feel pushed around. We tried--and failed--to requisition (Toyota's term for "ordering") a 2004 Rav4 w/ side airbags among some other options. We live in OK and went through our local small city dealer, who in turn had to go through Gulf States Toyota. We waited 5 months (mid-March to mid-August), before it became painfully evident that ... We're looking into a 2004 Rav4 for a 3rd family car. I can't seem to find out when the '05s come out. I assume that once they hit the showrooms, the dealers will be a little more easy to deal with for the '04s. Anybody know if Toyota has any plans (yeah, I know they'd have to be down-the-road at this point) for a RAV4 Hybrid? We just bought a 2004 fully loaded for $24,300, and it's a neat little car. Toyota has issued three different TSB's (technical service bulletins) that cover three different areas under the cowl. Highway safety institute did 5-mph bumper tests on 2001 RAV4. This design, which is predominately for styling reasons, guarantees excessive damage in a whole range of rear collisions," said Brian O'Neill, president of the institute. http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/04/09/collision.tests/ I hope the 2004 model can do better.

The Canadian model doesn't get all of the upgrades that the US model got for 2004, including disc brakes and the traction control system. Most likely reason is that Toyota Canada passed on these items to keep the cost of the RAV4 down. It already is a relatively expensive vehicle for what you get and they wouldn't want to push their luck by making it more so.
