Vehicle2011 Toyota Prius Two 4dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
ReviewVehicle was purchased mainly for fuel economy given my long daily commute. Delivered 48 mgp as measured at the pump on first tank. Driving style and accessory use make a significant diffrence in mpg. I was driving moderately with minimal use of heat, AC or lights.
Toyota has listened to various on line postings and seems to have corrected every minor thing that was wrong with the 2010 model. Brakes work perfectly with no lag when going over bumps or pot holes in road. There is no delay as many had claimed for 2010 version.
The radio gets good reception in all bands now. Glad I waited for 2011, I never purchase a new model the first year of launch.
Best Features5 STAR safety rating per new 2011 goverment crash testing which includs side crash testing into a pole at 35 mph. The 2010 and previous years ratings are not comparable to 2011. Some cars that were 5 stars in 2010 are only achieving 2 or 3 per 2011 testing. This is a very significant accomplishment for such a small light vehicle. Much more expensive and larger cars (including the Camry Hybrid) did not get 5 stars. Bluetooth (called BLU Logic) in type II is great. The base radio is nearly as good as the JBL at moderate volume levels. No belts in the engine or transmission to wear out or break, this will significantly improve reliability and lower cost of maintenence. Back seat is roomy.
Worst FeaturesI cannot clearly view the temp control display with polarized sun glasses, but the radio display is clearly visible. Use the same type of glass for the radio display for the temp display. Get rid of the ugly stub antenna on roof top and replace with shark fin type. Add more soft touch stratch resistant plastics inside. Do not add front lisence plate holder at factory. It is optional in my state and I like to see a clean bumper to improve drag. Add 3 yr 36k free maint, current 2 yr, 25k, only covers 5 tire rotations (which I can get for free at Costco) and 2 oil changes (worth about $100). The 30K maint is significantly more expensive but is not covered under program. Add full power seats.
