2010 Prius - Next Generation

Re: '10 Prius IV fuel gauge miles left [tyler70]

That means that in any vehicle you really should start looking for fuel at 1/4 tank lest you create crud in your fuel filter. On my '04 when the last pip starts blinking I have over 100 miles to go before fueling. If you do run out, you have at least two miles to drive on electric (assuming a full pack). Toyota changed that for 2010 and when you run out of fuel, the electric ... Read More...

Re: 2010 toyota prius break problems anyone? [charlesp]

Yes 'B' Mode should not be used in normal day-to-day driving. It's only to be used for engine 'B'raking going down long steep inclines, as specified in the Owner's Manual. As to the OP's original question about the sense that the vehicle is surging just before the brakes take hold, there are multiple discussions on this over at PriusChat. I frankly don't remember ... Toyota Prius vs VW Golf TDI

Actually Driven Hybrids & 2010 Golf TDI

I have driven both the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius for long distances from a company fleet. Both are good cars -- well finished and put together. They both suffer hybrid "problems" such lackluster acceleration, mushy brakes, and to achieve advertised MPG, the Econ mode has to be used which turns the A/C off while at most stop lights -- turning the A/C off ... Re: Prius for Brazil [victorbrazil]

Are you buying 2010 or 2009 models. I think that makes a big difference. I have a 2004 (same as 2009) which has had no real problems other than TSB's that were applied, at no cost, by my nearby Toyota dealer. Some of those were major.(anew fuel system, a new display and dashboard innards etc., other were minor. While the 2010 model is superior in performance and mileage, ... Read More...

Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance, Repair and Concerns

Re: 2010 toyota prius break problems anyone? [charlesp]

B mode is for downhill, not normal driving. I think you just need to get used to the Prius. It feels really weird at first. At least I thought so first few times I drove one. Reminded me of an old Citroen. Read More...

Re: 2010 toyota prius break problems anyone? [kiawah]

You know, personally I get really irritated by snide comments in reply emails. I presume nobody has ever fat fingered a keyboard and not realized it until immediately after pressing the send key, and mispelling your boss' name :-) Anyway, in my O6 HH, nowhere in the manual was it made really clear that when braking, the gas engine will likely shut down and all the ... Re: 2010 toyota prius break problems anyone? [kiawah]

I don't know what's with the constant complaints of "brake failure". I HAVE NEVER had ANY problems with the brakes on my '07. Now that I see the spelling of "brake", I am beginning to wonder about the relative "smartness" of those operators. Of course, I am aware that most consumers disregard the "Owner's Manual" in lieu of "live and learn", but if I just paid for ... Read More...
