With this one, performance is measured in MPG, and it excels in that. Handling, steering and brakes are more normal car-like than the previous generation of hybrids.
Driving comfort is good, as the Prius has plenty of room for a wide range of drivers. The ride is typical family car smooth. NVH is excellent, as the hybrid drivetrain either shuts the engine off or keeps it revving at a near-constant rpm. A new Prius Touring model gets a sport-tuned suspension.
Some Prius controls are a bit hard to use, especially those housed on the navigation screen. The lack of a traditional dashboard, replaced by a central dashtop display, is aggravating. The interior, however, is spacious and features a sizabale luggage area.
Styling is a bit quirky inside and out, but build quality and material choices are above average for this class.
