Re: Diesel Cars [avucarguy]
Yes, those German cars, any of them, surprisingly, do not come close to Asian cars and trucks for reliability. I have a 2008 Prius and we love it. I firmly believe gas prices are going to go through the roof in the next few years due to the Obama administration getting deep into "cap and trade". For that reason, I consider our Prius as insurance against that eventuality. ... Read More...

Re: 2008 prius manuals - all [russ45]
You can download the Prius guide online. Remember that this isn't written by Toyota - but by Prius owners. I've fouind it helpful and written more simply than the manual. Not sure if this is what you want but the web address is: http://john1701a.com/prius/documents/Prius_User-Guide_classic.pdf As for the manuals, if I was you, I would search for some used ... Re: wow [backy]
Another thing to think about. The Tax credit for EV or PHEV is based on the capacity of the battery. Volt was designed to get the maximum credit or maybe the other way around. The Prius PHEV will have less than a third the capacity of the Volt making the tax credit much less. Of course the batteries will also be less. The PHEV Prius can operate in electric-only mode for ... Read More...
Re: wow [backy]
Seeing is believing. The PHEV Prius were supposed to be out in late 2008 on the market. They had test models in 2006. I don't think Li-Ion is ready for mainstream yet. Just how new is Toyota's plug-in Prius? Maybe older than we think This Friday, Toyota will deliver two plug-in Priuses to UC Davis for testing purposes. We've known about Toyota's PHEV Prius plan for ... Read More...
Prius Brake Issues
Well, it happened to me yesterday (September 19,2009). I was in love with my 2008 Prius (despite having to spend a couple of hours to figure out how to operate the danged thing). I was pulling out of a parking lot, moving very slowly ,when I saw a car turn the corner and drive down the street which I was entering. I immediately applied the brakes HARD and to my dismay, ... Re: C4C's impact on diesel sales [backy]
As for Toyota closing its NUMMI plant after GM pulled out of the partnership... what does that have to do with the Prius vs.Golf? More than once Ahnold begged Toyota to build the Prius in CA the largest buyer of the model in the USA. The new Tupelo plant will not likely see the Prius. Anyone Hear of a Prius Catching Fire?
It Happens
I have been reading this board for over a year since we bought our 2008 Prius. Our Prius has been flawless (as I am sure 99.9% have been). I have also followed forums for all my cars (GMs, Fords, Hondas, Volvos, VWs, Toyotas) for many years. All I can say is some things happen to all cars. Also, people who write posts tend to be ones (including myself) who have had problems. ... Read More...
Does the current situation affect hybrid sales more?
carried over from a Diesel News post thread
Gary says, "Toyota has put all its marbles into the wrong markets. The US buyer is fickle. And the meager Prius sales when gas is cheap, attests to my belief." Gas prices and Prius sales do not have a direct correlation: Sales in 2004: 53,991 Avg gas price 2004: $1.895 Sales in 2005: 107,897 Avg gas price 2005: $2.314 Gas prices went up, and so did Prius sales. Sales ... Read More...
