2002 Toyota Prius 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
A test drive convinced us both that this was our next car.
Our Prius has 50% more horsepower than the Fiero it replaced (when needed, the 44 HP of the electric motor assist the 90 HP of the gas engine.)
At 110 miles we are already getting 43 MPG, even in stop and go traffic.
This car is both twice as clean pollution-wise as most new cars, and twice as efficient in use of gas, plus doesn't need special gas.
The hybrid technology and batteries are covered essentially for life. If it fails, the risk is Toyota's.
It is surprisingly roomy inside.
Contrary to some reviews, Prius includes Traction Control.
The car was delivered defect-free except for under-inflated tires.
1 The gas engine stopping when unneeded.
2 The top-of-dash electronic gauges and LCD display.
3 The smoothest transmission ever.
4 No gauge glare at night.
5 Service for 3 years is free
6 $1,500 clean fuel vehicle tax deduction.
The shift lever should be shortened.
I'd prefer a CD player that can handle MP3s. A sunroof would also have been nice (both are available after-market)
