Before I talk about the car, first look
at the fantastic community of friendly,
knowledgable enthusiasts the MR2 has:
The MR2 has put so many smiles on my
face... I can't even begin to count.
It's toyota build quality, reliability,
and efficiency, with Ferrari looks and
performance. Hands down this is the BEST
car for the person who wants a daily
driven sports car. The MR layout has the
perfect balance for superior handling as
well, and the NA is the autocross
champion of its class. The turbo (3sgte
motor) has unbelievable horsepower
potential as well.
The interior hugs the driver, it is the
perfect design for an intimate driving
experience every time! I also love the
rarity, and how it's so different from
any other car. This car delivers the
most 'turned heads' per dollar, I
A cupholder would be nice, but buying an
aftermarket one is cheap and simple. I
wish america got the 3sge in the NAs,
like all the other countries did :(. The
5sfe (camry motor in US mr2 NAs) still
has pep, and sounds GREAT behind my
I bought a 91 mr2 in 2001 with 90k
miles it would not break down and was
the best car I ever had bought. The
only think bad was it burnde a tad of
oil. I sold it for a 95 m3 and had so
many break downs I sold that and got
another bmw m3, 98 and thought things
would get better, but it is also
always in the shop. I has so much fun
in the mr2 and will do it all over
again but this time I will get the 95
supra. Dont let the hight miles of the
toyotas scare you the run like a top
even in to the 200k mile area. I kick
my self for selling my loving mr2 that
never let me down.
When someone says Turbo, most car
fanatics usually just assume it to be
Porsche. I do too, but now the MR2
comes to mind first. If you like
comfort, convenience and space and
room for 5, go buy a Camry. If you're
a serious enthusiast who likes to have
fun and doesn't care about cup holders
(which by the way are available if you
look for them on the MR2) this is the
car for you. Extreme fun to drive tops
up or down, simply stunning engine
that 3S-GTE, and the CT-26 is a
powerful turbo also.
I have gone over 135mph in it and it
runs like it wants to take on more.
The shape and design are great, the
driving feel is exhilarating. Id call
it a poor mans Porsche 911 Turbo. It
comes in a beautiful red color too!
Bought it w/ just over 100k on the
odometer. The only mechanical repairs
I've had was to rebuild the power
steering due to a leak and replace
emergency brake cables. Previous owner
wasn't too mechanically inclined and
I've had to fix some problems due to
his poor mechanic skills. Parts are
expensive and Labor time adds up due to
mid engine design. Luckily I do most of
them myself. That said, this is one of
the best cars I have ever owned!!
Engine is bullet proof and over
engineered to 400hp. Handles better
than a Ferrari 348
with the same acceleration time. Dollar
for dollar this the best
looks and performance you can get.
Styling. Driving with the T-tops off!
140k+ miles and I've gotten 30mpg on
the highway. Lots of performance
upgrades available. Wonderful MR2
owners community (MR2 message board) to
help get information.
Sway bar upgrade and 1993 chin spoiler
to help with high speed instablility.
New E-brake design- the're know to
freeze up. Larger wheels and tires.
