I have wanted an MR2 for as long as I can remember. I love the sleek styling and awesome handling characteristics of one of the best selling mid-engine cars in the world. I am 19 and I bought this car as a project. The previous owner(s) neglected the car and it was in pretty sad shape. The engine spun a rod bearing on the freeway (was to be expected) and then I had an excuse to put a different engine in the car. The original engine was a great, workhorse motor that responded well, got good gas mileage, parts were cheap (these engines are everywhere). It was also a very easy engine to work on. Surprisingly, the car is easy to work on, the mid-engine design do not hinder basic maintenance
Handling, style, responsiveness, all around a fun car to drive.
The transmission synchros in the 91/92 are weak. It was improved in 93+ models. Many of the problems of the earlier revisions of the car were fixed in the later revisions of the car. The shifting is a bit notchy; can be remedied by upgrading the shifter bushings and using a 75w-90 synthetic gear oil
This little car is the best investment I've ever purchased. Purchased in 2000 with 107,000 miles on it, my 1991 MR2 has only required a few tune-ups, oil changes, new tires, gas, and car washes. It currently has 214,000 miles and it still keeps going and going and going. I love this car!
The MR2 is a peppy little looker. Great gas milage, very reliable, and it gets compliments almost everywhere I go; car wash, gas station, drive through, valet, etc. Women love it. Men want to have. And my little nephew wants a Hot Wheels version of it! Which I got for him.
BRING THIS DESIGN CONCEPT BACK TOYOTA! Get rid of that convertable look. It doesn't represent the essence that is the MR2. Other than that, a nice stock electric moon roof would be awesome! Oh, and maybe a hybrid, maybe. Gas milage is already good at 30 miles per gallon, but 50 would be great!
The MR2 is the most awesome compact
car ever! Its light, has great
small, looks like no other car on the
road, and it turns heads everywhere.
It could use more power, but thats
what the turbo is for, the NA is for
tight curves. Needless to say the
other engine that are swapable into
two seats, mid engine design, the
frunk (front hood is 2nd trunk), body
styling and preformance.
the BEAMS 3SGE for the NA instead of
the 5SFE. Oh, and bringing the MR2
back instead of that convertible.
Before I talk about the car, first look
at the fantastic community of friendly,
knowledgable enthusiasts the MR2 has:
The MR2 has put so many smiles on my
face... I can't even begin to count.
It's toyota build quality, reliability,
and efficiency, with Ferrari looks and
performance. Hands down this is the BEST
car for the person who wants a daily
driven sports car. The MR layout has the
perfect balance for superior handling as
well, and the NA is the autocross
champion of its class. The turbo (3sgte
motor) has unbelievable horsepower
potential as well.
The interior hugs the driver, it is the
perfect design for an intimate driving
experience every time! I also love the
rarity, and how it's so different from
any other car. This car delivers the
most 'turned heads' per dollar, I
A cupholder would be nice, but buying an
aftermarket one is cheap and simple. I
wish america got the 3sge in the NAs,
like all the other countries did :(. The
5sfe (camry motor in US mr2 NAs) still
has pep, and sounds GREAT behind my
