2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder Convertible 2dr Convertible (1.8L 4cyl 5M)

Review

This car is the most fun to drive car
I've ever owned. Not meant for travel
but around town I keep the foot on the
floor from 0-speed limit. Has amazing
acceleration for the engine size.
With the rear engine it is so much fun
to "gas the curves" because it makes
the car track the curve plus gives me a
little excitement in my every day run
around town. No trunk space - no
problem - buy everything new when you
get there or take the Caddy!

Best Features

Rear engine and close ratio steering make it fun to drive.

Worst Features

This car is so much fun to drive that I don't even care about the small trunk!

2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder Convertible 2dr Convertible (1.8L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Anybody that bought this car and then
complained about cargo space, automatic
top etc. Just wasn't paying attention to
what they were buying. Its great fun to
drive, reliable, and the handling is
awesome. You can't touch its performance
and unique characteristics for half again
as much money.

Best Features

Midengine design Low weight Convertible top Low production numbers

Worst Features

The Celica GTS engine with 40+ more horsepower would be nice. The antenna looks stupid (fixed '03) Bigger rear wheels (fixed '03)

Review

Go-cart handling with quick turn in and
predictable oversteer. Engine revs a bit
on the freeway, and luggage space is
inconvenient and small. Power is
adequate but engine feels a little gaspy
at upper revs. 3" more legroom than the
Miata sold me, and I think it handles a
little better to boot.Doors that lock
automatically are annoying.

Best Features

Easy top with glass window

Worst Features

More luggage space, non automatic door locks

2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder Convertible 2dr Convertible (1.8L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Drivers area in S2000 and Miata were
too narrow; no room for left elbow.
Ample elbow room in my 2001 MR2.
Contrary to what you have read in some
reviews, you do not have to get out to
operate the convertible top. Cargo
space is indeed limited, but we two
have adjusted and have no complaints,
even on long trips. Smooth and stable
up to and over 100 mph.

Best Features

Every time I am out people stare and ask questions wanting to know what it is. The fact that there are so few of these is the best feature. If you enjoy unique cars and attention, this is the car. Light weight and nimble come in a close second.

Worst Features

Padding for armrests, easier way of cleaning rear drains, must turn radio off before you shut down car or you lose mid-range control on re-start, left and right rear visibility poor with top up.
