2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder 2dr Convertible (1.8L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Drivers area in S2000 and Miata were too narrow; no room for left elbow. Ample elbow room in my 2001 MR2. Contrary to what you have read in some reviews, you do not have to get out to operate the convertible top. Cargo space is indeed limited, but we two have adjusted and have no complaints, even on long trips. Smooth and stable up to and over 100 mph.

Favorite Features

Every time I am out people stare and ask questions wanting to know what it is. The fact that there are so few of these is the best feature. If you enjoy unique cars and attention, this is the car. Light weight and nimble come in a close second.

Suggested Improvements

Padding for armrests, easier way of cleaning rear drains, must turn radio off before you shut down car or you lose mid-range control on re-start, left and right rear visibility poor with top up.

Review

Just tradefd my 2000 mr2 for a 2003 mr2 (due to ;leg injury) with the smt. Ilove the car. Where ever i go people seem to like it and it is often mistaken for a Boxster. Althought the storage space is limited everything else is great. The smt is fun, however the upshift buttons could have been made larger.

Favorite Features

The whole package.

Suggested Improvements

Upshift buttons should be larger/more distinctive.

2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder 2dr Convertible (1.8L 4cyl 5M)

Review

This is a very fun car to drive and the mid engine layout makes the car very agile. This also helps acceleration. The car almost always turns head and there are a few of them on the street. The fuel economy is great and this is an very affordable sports car. This car also beats the Mazda Miata, its rival roadster.

Favorite Features

Exterior looks, always turn heads. Convertible top is easy to use. Very fun to drive. Mid-engine layout. Defines affordable sports car. (Might also want to look at the 2003 Nissan 350 Z0

Suggested Improvements

Interior is very dull (I think). Very limited cargo space. Weak stereo for a convertible (especially with the top down). More optional features. SMT is tricky sometimes shifting.

2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder 2dr Convertible (1.8L 4cyl 5M)

Review

I have had my spyder since 27/7/2001, I have not had a single problem with it, I like it so much, I bought a new 2003 model. All the mistakes, which are few, have been cleaned up in the new model.

Favorite Features

Fun to drive is the main feature, I have driven or owned many sports/supercars but this is the most fun!

Suggested Improvements

2003 Spyder has most if not all of the improvements needed. Probably a bigger engine and wider tyres are the only improvements needed.
