Any problems reported with the 2009 Matrix?

I bought an 09 Matrix in February and I've noticed a few small problems. I'm wondering if any other owner has noticed the same? This is my first Toyota so I'm not sure what it normal. Another Si sedan owner chiming in in support of the Civic EX, assuming you don't want the Si for some reason. I haven't driven any Toyotas that recently, but they've always struck me as not quite as fun to drive as Hondas and the build quality never seemed any better than Honda. Congrats on the Grad present! Either will be dependable and comfortable. I own a 2008 Civic Si Sedan and love it. I have driven the previous generations of the Corolla and Matrix. I'll be graduating from college in a few months and I'm getting a car as a graduation gift/commuter for work. I'm trying to decide between the 2009 Matrix and 2008 Civic. I have yet to test drive either, but after doing some research the Civic always seems to be a winner. Maybe I've misunderstood you - are you saying the 2009 model needs a fifth gear? Because my 2003 has a four speed (three speed with overdrive) and I like it. I usually set my cruise at 90 on the freeway, revving 2000 RPM. I think it revved much lower it would tend to lug down going uphill since I drive through mountains a lot. But at 2000 RPM, my 2003 Matrix never needs ... Read More...

Is the cargo area the same as in year's past?

I have a 2009 Toyota Matrix S and I was wondering if the cargo area (ie: rear seats folded down, measurement between the tops of the rear seats to the very back of the cargo area as well as width) would be the same as in years past. The fuel economy of the 2006 V Accord based on a manual transmission you speak of was juxtaposed to the 2009 Matrix which was an AWD with an automatic transmission would reveal that the Accord was using (city/hwy): 11.5 / 7.3 L/100 km, compared to the Matrix using (city/hwy): 10.2 / 7.6 L/100 km. Personally, I find the unlocking of all doors absolutely brilliant. The efficiency and convenience was well thought out. The owners manual is very explicit about "customization" of the door locks in automatics as versed in the sub chapter "Customization" residing in the "Vehicle Specifications" chapter near the rear of the manual.
