Hey all. I bought my Matrix around two years ago almost new (11k miles). Now it has around 43K miles and the last few months my transmission has been showing increasing symptoms of unwellness. I just noticed rough jerky, shifting with my 2005 Tyota Matrix 4 speed automatic yesterday for the first time. Checked transmission fluid level stick immediately, but I found full level and clean color. Today I searched the internet and I found numerous notes with Matrix transmission problems. it seems to me that Toyota gave you one of the trannys from the bad lot of bearings they received, in speaking with a transmission shop here in southern california they said that they use rebuild kits that are not toyota original parts and should hold up better. if you have another new transmission you might be able to find out when it was manufactured and if it was ... Just bought 2009 Matrix - while I did research BEFORE I spent the money, I didn't catch this forum - I relied on the mainstream stuff (Consumer Reports, etc.). Man, I wish I had found this forum instead. Bottom line, I spent more than I could really afford, cut all other expenses, etc, just so I could have a reliable and safe car to help out with my grandkids. All that ... Read More...

Is this your first experience with ABS? ABS should kick in if you are skidding. There is pulsating, and you should hear a grinding sort of noise. Take a technician for a ride and put the car into an intentional skid. See if he/she says it's normal. Read More...

I purchased a 2005 Matrix at the beginning of 2006, with 20,000 miles on it. The dealership had put new tires on it when I bought the car. I drove it till 54,000 miles and needed to replace the tires, now it has 70,000 miles and it needs tires again. We have a 2005 Toyota Matrix and the ABS brakes have a terrible grinding noise which the dealer says is normal as the brakes have to pulsate and consquently a noise. since you Canadians get to build most of the Vibes/Matrixes/Corollas it would seem that you are getting some model choices not available down here in the States - heck even the 'luxury' Corolla XLE is sold with the new 1.8.
