Unbelievable! I also have a 2004 Land Cruiser with the navigation problem of external power lost etc. It was recently diagnosed w/ 106,000 miles on it after a trip to the dealership for brake work. To my knowledge nothing was done with the battery. I was also told almost $6,000 for new replacement unit. After going to a non-dealer he was able to locate a pre-owned unit for a cost of ... I am having a similar problem with my land cruiser . I had the battery changed then al of a sudden the navigation system and everything attached to it went out. All I get is external system not connected. I am trying to find out if anyone knows how this can be fixed without having to pay 6000 for a new unit.
Most likely it's just the display unit that needs to be replaced, not the entire nav. system (5K). My dealer was able to install a refurbished display in my 04 Highlander for much less. Toyota alerted dealers about a possible malfunction in the multi-display unit in a 2005 tech bulletin (EL002-05). I believe the culprit is with a faulty solder joint within the unit. 2004 Highlander, Prius, and Land Cruiser are ... Read More
In 1/2005 Toyota sent its dealers a tech bulletin (EL002-05) describing a defect in its 2004 Highlander, Prius and Land Cruiser models: "Some customers may experience various malfunctions occurring with the multi display". They state that a revised multi-display unit had been developed to resolve the problem and that a replacement unit would be installed IF the malfunction occurred within the 36K mile warranty period. When my 04 Highlander unit began ... Read More
"Now as for your comment on the Denali being the best, and the Sequoia being second I have to disagree. A torsen diff is proactive, and a VC is reactive as far detecting wheel slip. Which means the torsen is better. The Sequoia has ATRAC, and the Denali has an automatic locking rear diff., and TRAC. The locking rear diff only works until 20 mph, and then it is all up ... I have a 2004 Prius that started giving me error messages and system not connected in Oct., 2006. Went to dealer and they want $4000 to put in a replacement. Bought a Polaroid that has the same size screen and also plays DVD for $400 and is more accurate in Yuma, AZ. The only problem is I cannot control my defrosters or Ac. The defrosrers are a safety problem and I ... Read More
The 2005.1 is the most recent disk according to my dealer (We currently have a 2004.2 in our 2005 Land Cruiser). Does anyone know whent the next version is due to be released? It seems that halfway through 2006 we should be close... Thanks
I am thinking about purchasing either a 2002, 2003 or 2004 TLC. It seems there were a few cosmetic and horse power differences amongst these years, but no major changes 03 to 04 (except addition of back-up sensor)... Do you think I should get an 03, over an 04? an 02 over an 03? I would save a fair amount of money (e.g. approx $4K-$10K on 03 versus 04). However, I ... Read More
I just bought a new 2004 Land Cruiser, and boy do I love this vehicle! I want to thank everyone on this board for all of the information they have provided over the past couple of years. This information was very useful to me as I gathered data for my purchase. I was able to get my vehicle at invoice price ($54,900), fully loaded with nav, DVD, 18 inch wheels, rear ... Read More
dabobt: You're my hero. I've been dying to get this same information myself as I am doing the exact same thing as you are. I'll go ahead and wait for the 2004 since I'm in no real hurry. fj100: I'm new to Land Cruisers, but have admired them for a long time. It's a real bummer. This reminds me of how I felt when the Japanese did away with the great ... Read More
The rear view camera could probably be added by a local electronics shop. The value of the 2004 is the fact that it may be the last true Land Cruiser to come to the states and that is sad. Rumor has it that Toyota will have the Sequioa has the top of the line vehicle, the LC will go back to its roots on a tacoma platform and Lexus will try ... Read More
I just found this at motortrend.com (two paragraphs relating to the LC): Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the 2004 Sequoia full-size sport/utility vehicle, the 4Runner mid-size SUV, the Land Cruiser full-size SUV, and the Celica sport coupe. All four vehicles go on sale at the end of August. The legendary Land Cruiser carries over largely unchanged for 2004. Like the 4Runner, Land Cruiser's ... Read More
In considering our next SUV, power folding mirrors are a nice feature, especially in the rain. We currently have them and use them every time we pull into the garage, as it is a tight fit with two cars. I know that the LX470 has them and the LC does not. Given the similarities between the two, is it possible to buy the parts to convert the LC mirrors. Also: When ... Read More
We are in the market for a new SUV and may have narrowed it down to the Land Cruiser and Sequoia. The obvious advantage at this point is the available navigation on the Land Cruiser, however this may be solved in 2004 if Toyota finally puts the navigation in the Sequoia. I've always loved the Land Cruiser. It's such a classy car. We're not going off road or to the mountains ... Read More
Steelcruiser, I too hope you're correct on the future of the Cruiser here in the US. How are the prices on Land Cruisers in CA? In my immediate area, we have a smaller dealership that gets in one Cruiser every blue moon, and doesn't deal much on their vehicles. I doubt I'll be buying another Toyota from them, but at least their Service Dept. has been good to me over the ... Read More
OK Steelcruiser, looks like you're correct. Name your poison pardner. If Toyota wants to kill the Golden Goose that helped build the company, then so be it. I just find it hard to believe these rumors. The Land Cruiser has been winning awards, Edmunds Editor's Pick, and God knows what else acolades from auto critics. It simply does NOT make sense to kill off an extremely popular model that took many ... Read More
Does anyone know what might been in store for the Land Cruiser in 2004? What car show is best for New Toyotas? Thanks
I purchased a brand new 2002 Sequoia SR5 4WD and the 4WD system on this vehicle is AWESOME. What an improvment over my brother's 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser! Toyota did a great job on it and thought about everything. My wife feels especially safe when driving in foul weather. I had to explain the 4WD system to the fleet salesman and he thought that all the 4WD systems on the all ... Read More
i was surfing the motor trend future vehicle site and i saw the future of the lc and lx: http://www.motortrend.com/future/spied/112_2004fvf/index3.html "2004 Toyota Land Cruiser: Production scheduled to end on the Land Cruiser. The success of the Tundra-based Sequoia will influence the decisions on the next generation Land Cruiser." http://www.motortrend.com/future/spied/112_2006fvf/ :2006 Lexus VX 470: Replacing the Land Cruiser twin LX 470 is a luxury version of the larger Sequoia." i know the ... The Land Cruiser and LX470 will be modified slightly (see insidelexus.com - side airbags, new headlights...) for 2003 and 2004 and maybe some big changes will come in 2005. The type of vehicle the Land Cruiser is might change a bit but I'd be surprised if Toyota didn't sell something called a Land Cruiser in America in 2005 (and 2003).
