Dear Sir, I have an 2000 ToyotaLandcruiserCygnus. The VSC and TRAC OFF lights came on the dash. Please explain me problem solving. Please discussion for me.
Beginning with the 2000 model year Land Cruiser, Toyota began using a new 4WD system called ActiveTrac. This same system was incorporated into all 2001 4Runners and the new 2001 Sequoias. The same basic system has also been used in the Mercedes M Class as well as post ‘99 Humvees. :(
is it a 2 piece system with a seperate gps computer? if so you may be able to switch whole computer and map data to usa version. usa land cruisers didnt have nav until 2001 and it was first year of dvd based maps. 98 to 2000 lexus had hard drive based computer. so it depends on whewther the 99 lc has actual factory jdm unit or just one iof those ... 78,000 miles and will need new shocks soon. The Toyota dealer can get some that are Toyota branded for $47 ea. for front and $43 ea. for rear. This seems like an attractive price, but I wonder if anyone has tried Bilstein shocks (much more expensive)on a TLC and how it affected the ride. I did like the factory ride when the shocks were new, but added Bilsteins to my old ... Read More
I have a '06 Land Cruiser with 2000 miles and I have been getting 13mpg around town and 16 on the open road with average speed about 70
You’re right “grantchstr”. When the 100 came out for ‘98 I didn’t feel compelled to trade in my ‘91 Fj80 and when I finally gave the 80 to my son in 2000 I ended up missing it a whole lot. My 100 has been utterly reliable but I feel its gone to far upscale, losing a lot of utility in its transformation from Land Cruiser to Land Cushion. Flyfish - If ... Read More
Petersoncv, my TLC problem was worse than yours I got the buzzer all the time and it was driving me crazy. Check out this link http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliability.aspx?year=1998&make=Toyota&model=Land%20Crui- ser The symptoms are different, some affect the electric mirrors as well. I am very upset because my LC is out of warranty and to me is a failure from Toyota. This is only corrected for free if you had the problem during your warranty ... Read More
My wife's Intrepid has been a great vehicle, but we'll soon be in the market for a new vehicle for her. My '00 Yukon has 100K on the clock and still looks and runs like brand new, and I just can't bring myself to get rid of it...but that's another story. My initial thought it a '99 or '00 Toyota LC for her. However, I'm also considering an '01 Sequoia and ... Read More
I just test drove a 2000 Land Cruiser. It is from an unaffiliated used car dealer (specializing in luxury vehicles coming from lease returns) and has 84,000 miles on it with one previous owner. It is advertised for an uncharacteristically low (in this area, anyway) $25,900 with room for negotiation. That's what 98 and 99 models are usually selling for around here. I did notice a few things that might explain ... Read More
I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra and A 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser. I thought they had the same engine (4.7 liter V8) After reading both manuals I discovered the LC call for 91 octane and the Tundra 87 octane. Why? What would happen if I ran my LC on less than 91 octane?
I posted this on the lexus forum also: Any advise on this... 2000 Land cruiser certified for 29K or 2000 Lx470 for 31K non certified. 56k and 51k on lx. The fact that the toyota is certified is pulling me in that direction... what is the drivetrain warranty on these two models? Thanks!!
Well I finally did it. I have been debating for months between the '03 Land Rover Discovery and the newest LC I could afford. I had a Disco on hold and almost bought it, actually I was on the way to get it and my wife talked me out of it and back into the LC. I got a 2000 LC w/ 54k on it for $29,000. All regular Toyota maintenance ... Read More
When I started this morning, my 2000 land cruiser 's ABS, VSC trac, and VSC off lights stayed on. Did any one have the same problem? I guess I need to go to Toyota dealer. Don
I have been monitoring the various technical comments on this message board recently and have found them to be very informative. Since this an active board, I would like to share some of my issues and also try to find out if anyone else has had similar problems (and as a result, some kind of acknowledgment from Toyota). My 2000 TLC has experienced quite a few of the problems already mentioned ... Read More

The same basic system has also been used in the Mercedes M Class as well as post ‘99 Humvees. These systems operate in essentially the same way with a few exceptions. When engaged, you have three open differentials working for ... Read More
I have been looking at THC's for quite a while. I am amazed at the add on's from Southeast Toyota. There is a $500.00 adman fee, and they have a "protection" package(paint and fabric protector, etching, etc) which is about $600.00 These items are printed on the original factory sticker and have been represented to me as coming out of the port on all Southeast Toy Land Cruisers. (They don't appear to ... Read More
Well, today, March 16, 2001, after six months of trying to get a Toyota mifwick to check my 2000 LC, they finally did. After a five minute drive (maybe less)the young Toyota rep made the following astute observation: "Duh, it's truck after all, you gotta expect a little vibration." What I in fact expected, was the answer he gave me. While very polite (lots of smiles and hand shaking)the Toyota rep ... Read More
A little information to share with those of us who have experienced the annoying heat shield rattle with the 1998 and 1999 TLCs. I checked with the dealership and confirmed that a Technical Service Bulletin TSB)was issued by Toyota. It came out in the summer of 2000. The TSB identifies the design problem and the recommended modifications. Unfortunately, it also limited the repairs to the standard 3 year / 36,000 miles. ... Read More
dianne, who works for Toyota, posted #346 stating the Land cruiser is not going anywhere. Some of the mini vans have very impressive safety records, perhaps even more so than some SUV's. Hopefully someone can add to this. I know my wife will not drive a mini van - refuses to succumb to the "soccer mom" image (HA!) Dianne also mentioned in a post that she heard Toyota is coming out ... Read More
A local Toyota dealer has a 2000 and a 2001 Land Cruiser side by side on his lot. The 2000 is clearly 1.5 to 2 inches taller than the 2001. Does anyone know if Toyota has lowered the 2001 Land Cruisers?
I am another person with blistering bass problems in a 2001 Land Cruiser. I test drove a 2000 with the stereo on....no problem. I drove a Sequoia for almost three weeks. The Sequoia has what appears to be the same 6 disc AM/FM cassette deck as the TLC. THERE IS NO BLISTERING BASS PROBLEM IN THE SEQUOIA. I therefore assumed that the stereo in the 2001 would be the same. In ... Read More
