Re: Article Comments - 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Full Test [KarenS]
On the testing approach: 1.We often bring along a backpack to gauge realistically usable cargo space. Wish testing would do that. Use some real-life items we can all easily understand to check cargo space. 2. In addition to above, do it with the third row folded down and folded up so we can gauge amount of cargo space. 3. It would be nice to know how high can one stuff ... Read More...
Re: Article Comments - 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Full Test [KarenS]
Well, I am impressed by the EV and ECON modes. I think that at 4500 lbs, the vehicle could not manage with an I4. If I were in the market I might consider this vehicle - but the Ford Escape Hybrid is a lot cheaper (actual prices), and would get similar if not better MPG. I suppose that the only way to get a high mileage SUV from Toyota is if they make a hybrid RAV4, which is ... Read More...

Re: can't decide if I should buy an 07 or wait for the 08 HH [haymista]
The main difference I see is in the way the interior space is used. The second row console can be removed (and replaced), so that you can have a second row bench seat, or two non-removable captain chairs, and a pass through to the third row. Also, the third row folds down, so when you don't need it, you have extra space in the back. For me this is important because I have ... Read More...
Re: 2-mode tahoe vs 2008 highlander hy [joe540ci]
It all depends on what you are looking for. Price will be close but MPG is significantly different as I understand it. I would also check out reliability and general fit and finish if I am going to pay all that cash for a GM car. The 2008 HH is supposedly getting the same MPG as the 2006, 2007 HH. Using the 2008 new EPA computation, that will put it generally 20% lower than ... Read More...
Performance Hybrids
I've owned a Hh since July '05 [26K] and I understand Toyota's reasoning. No other auto company offers an All Wheel Drive, SEVEN passenger vehicle that will race to 60mph in LESS than 7 seconds and get up to 28 MPG. If you want a 4 cyl. hybrid they have the Camry. Consider this: a 4 cyl. All Wheel Drive RAV 4 gets 1 mpg better than Saturn's TWO WHEEL Drive Greenline Hybrid ... Read More...

Re: EV and Econ Mode in 2008 HH [discussion1]
I had earlier asked the same question about the economy mode on the 2008 highlander non-hybrid board but got no answer. I did some Googling and found that the Ford Escape Hybrid 2008 model will have an economy mode too. What it does is to switch off the AC when the vehicle is idling. That way the ICE can always be shut off at a stop whether you have AC on or not. The EV mode ... Read More...

Re: Performance Hybrids [kyrpto]
"According to everything I have read, the '08 Hh's drivetrain is virtually identical to mine. Your statement about a big change and the '08 being the real deal is nuts. The interior and exterior are changing, the VDIM and hybrid systems are the same. Post a link that supports your statement - you can't." According to Toyota, there are changes to the powerplant, ...
