2008 HH tows only 3500-lb

FYI -- Toyota's website says the '08 HH can tow only 3500-lb, while the gas Highlander can tow 5000-lb max. Looks like early reviews and reports were mixing the gas version with the hybrid version. Read More...

Aug-2007 Hybrid Sales

http://www.hybridcars.com/market-dashboard/aug07-us-sales.html Aug-2007 Hy sales were much lower compared to the last few months and even less that Aug-2006 when all other months in 2007 were better than the same months in 2006. Infact, the share of Hybrids among total vehicle sales is less than 2.0 % Reason Prius-2008 is coming in Sep with Standard Edition ... Read More...

Re: Hybrid stupidity [cdptrap]

I've been absorbing and enjoying all the messages on the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. While I do have the "hots" for the 2008 HH Limited, the one problem is the cost! Toyota raised it approx 15% which makes me wonder if the "enormous" investment is really worth it. Will I ever recoup my outlay, whatever the mileage and clean-burn issues? Read More...

2007 Hybrid vs. V6 Highlander

Re: 2007 Hybrid vs. V6 Highlander [2labpuppers]

As an accountant, I can sympathize. You won't "make" money from the Hybrid purchase nor save money from it either. You are paying for a premium vehicle. To save money get a Yaris or the like. Over the last decade or so, Toyota has refined the Hybrid to what we have in the 2007; even more so with the 2008. It is an extremely reliable vehicle (Compare maintenance issues ... Read More...

Re: highlander hybrid 300 hp? [lynnkushnir]

The 2008 model is 270-hp, so there is no 300-hp HH unless Toyota has changed its spec. The '06 version is 268-hp. I saw the torque curve of our 2006 HH and I believe it applies to the '07 as well but not sure about the '08. In any case, maximum torque is achieved at around 1200+ RPM so the car will rocket off the starting line and push you into the seat. The '06 got 7.5 sec 0-60. ... Read More...

Just Compare EPA Numbers Re: GREEN? [6sptl]

We can debate personal choices all we want but where are the measurements? Here they are: 2007 Sports Utility Rating - With MPG Adjusted by 2008 Testing Criteria http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byclass/Sport_Utility_Vehicle2007.shtml Highlander Hybrid - 28 City/ 25 FWY - 7.1 ton CO Emision, EPA Pollution score is 8,9. The 2008 HH should be the same, I hope. ... Read More...

Re: Hybrid economics [6sptl]

Hmmmm... as I asked earlier, where is the emission data of a diesel car, in the same class as the HH, that matches the emission data of the 2008 Highlander Hybrid? THis post makes a vague general reference but no concrete EPA or CA AQB specifications. Can someone cite a specification? I am not interested in defending Toyota because I truly have no brand loyalty. ... Read More...

Comparing Apples to Apples

If one must compare the cars, then one must compare apples to apples. Edmund's 2008 HH test report is darn good place to start. The 2008 Highlander Hybrid is different than the 2006 HH and different than the 2008 gas-version Highlander. The difference is NOT just the hybrid drive, it is also about safety and emission. This $6000 premium (or however much that is) ... Read More...

Re: Hybrid economics [masospaghetti]

Shucks! THis should be about the 2008 HH but I guess it is close enough :). (1) What happened to the emission issue? All gas and no emission concerns? Why not just buy the Chevy Tahoe then? It claims 19 MPG too and cheap with rebates. Wait! get a HEMI HUMMER, now that is a manly-man car! Heck with smog pollution, right? (2) Where are the several definitive sources that ... Read More...

Re: Article Comments - 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Full Test [KarenS]

On the testing approach: 1.We often bring along a backpack to gauge realistically usable cargo space. Wish testing would do that. Use some real-life items we can all easily understand to check cargo space. 2. In addition to above, do it with the third row folded down and folded up so we can gauge amount of cargo space. 3. It would be nice to know how high can one stuff ... Read More...
