Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Re: Hwy MPG

Hybrids do get better mileage on the highway than non-hybrids, so the arguement that one would be "better off getting a non-hybrid if you do primarily hwy driving" may not pan out. Looking at the specs of a vehicle that is offered in both non-hybrid and hybrid, the Toyota Camry, the specs say this: 2008 4 cylinder, automatic trans.: Mileage Estimates: city 21 mpg ... Toyota Highlander Hybrid MPG-Real World Numbers

Re: Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2008: Cold Weather Issues [akdeedee]

I'm in Anchorage and get 27 MPG on my 2006 Highlander Hybrid in the warmer months and 17 MPG in the cold months, a 37% decrease in fuel efficiency. The decrease in mileage in the cold months is supposedly due to numerous factors including winter oxygenated fuels, snow tires, heating up the car before driving, using the heater on high while while driving, decreased ... Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2008: Cold Weather Issues

I reside in Alaska, and purchased my vehicle new in Nov. 2007. My gas mileage has been abysmal. According to the dealership, all systems are functioning within normal perameters. However, something is not right. Here are stats that I have gleaned, based on mileage posted in the car's center panel, and my own MPG computations: City Driving: 11-12 MPG, as compared ... Wish Toyota would have given more options for HH

I visited a dealership to see the 2008 HH. I love the interior, and the drive was much nicer than previous HH model. What was dissapointing was exterior cosmetics; the small amount of color options and the different grill - we like the gas H grill much better, but can't get that in the HH without paying for it to be changed. We have an 07 Lexus 400h, and want to get the ... Read More...

Re: 2008 Highlander Hybrid [jeniveve76]

You CAN get them with more specified options, but Toyota in general sends our cars with certain packages on them most of the time ... they will tell you it's b/c they are the most commonly sold, but it is a money-making proposition (duh, I know). If you special order one, you should be able to pick out the EXACT options you want on it ... otherwise you'll have to just ... Read More...

2008 Highlander Hybrid

My husband and I have been doing research this past year and have finally decided on the 2008 Highlander Hybrid. What I'm running into is 4 different dealers saying "these vehicles only come with 1 of 2 packages, the PO (Popular Package) or PP (Popular Package Plus)" which adds an extra $2000-$3000+ depending on which dealer you talk to. My husband and I only want ... Read More...

Adaptive cruise control

Probably the major reason I did not purchase a Lexus 400h hybrid a couple of years ago was the fact that it did not have adaptive cruise control, even though the "regular" Lexus 350 did. Which I thought was somewhat strange because I would think the ability to automatically (and smoothly) slowdown and speed up in stop-and-go and rush-and-slow traffic would increase ... Read More...

2008 Highlander Hybrid Test Drive

I finally got to test drive a new 2008 HH this week in the Chicago area. It's a great vehicle with the usual Toyota quality and quite well optioned from the base model up to the Limited. It was, of course, very smooth and refined and, to me, rode the same as the ICE version. I did try the Economy mode and you could really feel the difference. It didn't turn it into a total ... Towing with the Highlander Hybrid

Re: Highlander Hybrid limited towing answers [sharirichards]

The 2008 Highlander Hybrid still tows only 3500-lbs. Please see the following link: http://www.toyota.com/highlander/specs.html If the link takes you to general specifications, click on the "CAPACITIES" tab and it will show the towing limits. So the car still does not have enough continuous torque to tow. This is the only time I wish they do not detune the ... Read More...

Re: Highlander Hybrid limited towing answers [ljmiii]

RE: As others have mentioned, the 2006 HiHy has extraordinary power for its 3500lb tow rating. The 2008 is another story - same engine, 500 extra pounds, and a 5000lb tow rating. Does the '08 really have a 5,000lb tow rating??? I can't verify that anywhere - Toyota's website, etc. I am anxious to find out -- It will make a difference in whether or not we purchase the ...
