Hybrids do get better mileage on the highway than non-hybrids, so the arguement that one would be "better off getting a non-hybrid if you do primarily hwy driving" may not pan out. I'm in Anchorage and get 27 MPG on my 2006 Highlander Hybrid in the warmer months and 17 MPG in the cold months, a 37% decrease in fuel efficiency. I visited a dealership to see the 2008 HH. I love the interior, and the drive was much nicer than previous HH model. What was dissapointing was exterior cosmetics; the small amount of color options and the different grill - we like the gas H grill much better, but can't get that in the HH without paying for it to be changed. You CAN get them with more specified options, but Toyota in general sends our cars with certain packages on them most of the time ... they will tell you it's b/c they are the most commonly sold, but it is a money-making proposition (duh, I know). Probably the major reason I did not purchase a Lexus 400h hybrid a couple of years ago was the fact that it did not have adaptive cruise control, even though the "regular" Lexus 350 did. I finally got to test drive a new 2008 HH this week in the Chicago area. It's a great vehicle with the usual Toyota quality and quite well optioned from the base model up to the Limited. The 2008 Highlander Hybrid still tows only 3500-lbs. Please see the following link: http://www.toyota.com/highlander/specs.html If the link takes you to general specifications, click on the "CAPACITIES" tab and it will show the towing limits. RE: As others have mentioned, the 2006 HiHy has extraordinary power for its 3500lb tow rating. The 2008 is another story - same engine, 500 extra pounds, and a 5000lb tow rating.
