2012 Toyota Highlander SE 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 5A)
I have owned this SUV for 9 months and already have over 16,000 miles on it, mostly highway. Mileage is good for this size vehicle and about as advertised (19/23). Build fit and finish is very good, and no major quality issues (so far). The vehicle does very well with long-distance highway cruising (minimal vibrations, very quiet, comfortable seats), and handles well around the city. No issues with hauling a boat -- plenty of power at the ramp and stable towing. Good cargo capacity with rear seats down.
The ride quality and handling are excellent for highway distance driving. Handling is good around city. Sound system is very good (excellent bass). Leather seating very comfortable, including the 2nd row back, but wouldn't want to sit in the third-row jump seats. The vehicle looks good -- not blocky like the Honda and American SUV's.
Some of the interior design could have used more thought, but nothing terrible.
The tempeture control, if turned to the coldest setting, engages the A/C and recirculates. This is probably great for hot weather, but in the north it means that occassionally you drive around with the A/C and heat on. Large amount of interior storage (glove box, center consol, etc.), but not broken down so everything is in a jumble. Seats could go back & down a bit further for 6-foot drivers. Not much arm support/elbow rests for drivers under 5.5 foot (hard for longer distances).
